OK..so symptoms are really weak output from any module in any slot....and what output is there is crackling and the background hiss is way over the top loud even at low volumes.

I changed both pre-amp tubes with known good ones and it's the same :-/

One time in powering it on out of 8, I got it to produce correct sound and the hiss/craclking was gone.

I'm using stuff (cable, guitar, patch cables) I know works, since I've tested with other gear.

EDIT: Did some more troubleshooting and it seemed that only sometimes the signal was weak or intermittent...so I checked out the wiring harness....voila, looks like signal going to the backplane is getting interrupted....sure enough moving the wire close to the input has an effect..so it's either a broken wire, loose connection or a bad solder joint on the input board :D

I'm almost 100% sure that the short, small signal wire going from the middle position on input board to the backplane is broken inside....hurray for a simple problem :D

See attached pic!

Well, I soldered me up a new frickin' cable..took forever to salvage the two pin crimp connectors from the old cable but it looks surprisingly neat....gonna try and gets Egnater to send me a pucker one when they gets back from well deserved rest

I guess the eBay guy gets a negative feedback...for non-response...would be my first ever, is it really worth it????

Yup..PITA it was too..dude waited 7 days before getting back to me after I mailed him 3 times after he said it was shipped....then waited another 4 to actually ship it..just poor customer service.

We'll wait and see what he says about it...could be damaged in transit I guess..

Modules still play OK in my MOD50..thankfully I had that option still to test 'em

Sucks man.

call Jeff?

Did you try new tubes in the chassis slots?

I bet it's just a simple loose part inside. I'd say call Bruce/Jeff and send it in. I'd bet it's a quick and easy fix.

Yup...

"I changed both pre-amp tubes with known good ones and it's the same :-/"

....no dice.

I'm sure this is an easy fix but got to wait for the seller to respond before doing anything....Jeff and the boys will take care of me I'm sure....they take Egnater for Life pretty seriously and have outstanding service

Unless you are a tech, all you can do is change the tubes. Nothing else can be done by you. It needs to come to us. We are on vacation till 7-28 starting this Thurs. So take this into consideration.

Appreciate the response, was just hoping their was maybe a couple of obvious spots to check voltages on for this kind of issue. Am perfectly capable to do some basic measurements with a DVM, read a schematic and re-work PTH stuff...been doing this on other stuff since well before my 16th birthday :D I just know squat about amps except the basics.

I have to wait for the seller to respond before I make any decision but thanks for your support and the vacation notice. It will be after then if I send anything in....Happy Holidays!

I would be happy to foward the schematic to you for you to try but we can't tell you what to look for. Sounds like it needs to come to us. Who is the owner you bought it from?

I'm gonna pop the lid, look for a loose connection or any obvious damage and if nothing obvious, I'll phone you after 7/28.

Came from a shop, don't know the guy personally.

Thanks,

Steve
