So heres the deal. Im using BMan and EG5 99% of the time. Id like to add a compressor to only channel A of the BMan. Thats it. Lets say I get a used rack compressor. I only want to use the Egnater 4 button midi footswitch as my pedal is final, neat, and tight. Im not adding a ground control pro for this!

Can I run the one midi cable from the egnater to the compressor then MIDI thru to the head and somehow make the compressor go into bypass mode for anything other than PC 1 messages? Or do I need a switcher?

Im looking to do this with as little impact to my rig, setup/tear down time, and wallet as possible.

sure.

You could just get a midi equipped processor of some sort that has a good comp. TC Triple C???? and have it go into bypass on your midi PC 3 and PC 4.

or, you could get one of those Axess control switchers, cfx-4?? and use it on an analog rack comp that has a footswitch in to activate bypass.

you might lose the phantom power if you do this.. you'd probably want to hit the egnater first, then the compressor.

in all honesty, i'd get the combination i have, grx4 (4 loops) plus an mfc5.. the mfc5 is small 7.50"W x 4.75"D x 1.25"FH x 2.00"RH.. it also doesn't limit you on what you can do..

i've never seen or read about the egnater footswitch, but i imagine it just sends 4 program changes 1/2/3/4 to midi ch 1. then no matter what device you have you have to bind it to only 4 presets.. seems pretty limiting to me.
