HELP: Speaker repair?.....Or just leave it?

I have a speaker where the lead out braids have pulled back slightly from the cone, and have pulled up the black/grey glue (or silicone?) that used to attach them to the cone. The speakers still work fine (i.e., the lead out braids are still ultimately attached to the voice coil).

I am wondering:

1.) Do I need to reattach the lead out braids to the cone? If I don't reattach them, will the speaker get damaged over time through use?

2.) What is the best type of glue (silicone?) to use to reattach the lead out braids to the cone? Hopefully, the glue is readily available and won't require a special order........

I used rubber cement for the same problem. I've also used it to repair a ripped cone, that was a few years ago and it's till holding strong.
