Hello all, first off Im new here so be patient. I did a search and couldn't find anything.

Just fired up my vh4 and the low end is farting out (compressing and fuzzing a little like a fuzz pedal). All tubes are glowing and the "bad tube" lights are not on. All fuses look good too. Its not user error as settings are all about noon and I have other amps, cabs, guitars etc.... and nothing else is like this.

Hope this makes sense.
Thanks

Is it on all channels? Try swapping preamp tubes and see if that isolates the problem.

Took a preamp tube and went down the line. Still the same thing.

Attached is a clip.

Wow...that really does sound like shit.
It's kind of a cool shitty sound, though.

And you're saying that it does this on all 4 channels?
Is it possible that it's your guitar? It kind of sounds like when the battery dies in EMGs.

And the signal is just Guitar -> VH4 -> Cab?

how old are the tubes in the amp? the tubes could be bad or going even if the fail light isnt on.

and it does sound like an active pickup battery dying...good call Sixtonoize

Ok I tried new power tubes and pre tubes still the same.

As far as the pickup goes---tried another guitar and still the same thing.

guitar>vh4>cab

I can plug into my soldano with all the same stuff and record a clip but I can tell its something with the amp.

its a little hard to tell on the clean channel because its clean and stringy but it does seem like its on all channels.

Speaker cable--nope

I used all the same components with my Soldano, 5150, and mark iv and nothing. If you guys would like I can record the same thing with all the same stuff (guitar, cable, cab) on another amp.

Sorry but don't know much about internals on amps.

Bad filter cap, Is this something I can look inside and tell visually?

Are the drivers in the cab wired correctly??????????????????

V.

Yes---I have connected my Soldano, Mark iv, and 5150to the same cab and there all fine. Cab, guitar, other amps everything is fine. Im positive this is the vh4.

And sorry for the question - is there a STRANGE sound coming from ALL Channels on the V...?? With MV at about 10 o'clock, and the Channel_V at about 11 or 12 o'clock, are you finding 'noise' and 'flubber' in all circuits?

V.

Ok did what you asked and on all 4 channels it sounds flubby and fuzzy.

I have gotten no word back from US diezel and peter emailed me and haven't heard back from him yet. Does anyone know if there's a repair guy in northern California.

Thanks for the help guys

How old is the amp and is it under warranty ?

To me, it sounds like a bad filter cap and on the VH4 it's a very easy repair due to the design.
Any amp tech can do that job. If your not convinced about our diagnosis and the amp is under warranty,
I would spend the money to get it to Dave Friedman at Rack Systems in Hollywood.

did you recently carry the amplifier or haul somewhere right before the problem?

examples like carrying it to/from a gig, moved it from a cabinet onto another cabinet, etc?
