help with tube mix knobs on renegade

My tube mix knob on the gain channel causes a loss of almost all volume when turned fully towards the 6L6 side.

On the clean channel with the tube mix knob set to full 6L6 the volume is normal and doesn't fade at all when rotated fully one way or the other.

I've only had it for a few days, and I'm thinking it must be a bad pot for the tube mix on the gain channel?

Is there anything else I should check before returning? (for an exchange)
 
First of all, it's normal for the amp to be loudest straight up (all four tubes) than when it is full left or full right (only two tubes).

If that doesn't answer your question, I would also assume it is a power tube rather than the knob itself.

Thanks, the volume is almost completly silent though on the 6L6 side of the gain channel, it's not a subtle difference.

Normal volumes on the clean channel though all through the 6L6 / EL34 mix.

I replaced the 6L6 with Tung-Sols, re-biased and still have the same issue.

Looks like this amp is on its way back.
 
Yeah, I would replace the original tubes and just excahnge it for another one at that point.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for taking the time to inquire about my issue.

I decided to purchase all new tubes to see if that would help.

Replaced all the preamp and gain tubes, adjusted bias, and still have the same issue on the on the 6L6 side of the gain channel only.

With the exception of this issue, the amp sounds great.

So,
I put all the Egnater tubes back in, and I've arranged for an exchange Renegade head to be shipped out, should be here some time next week.

FYI,
When I first turned on the amp there was a clattering noise, I opend up the back and noticed the fan wires were rubbing on the blades a little bit, also the wires were pinched in the fan mounting bracket.

I pulled the wires out from the between the fan and the bracket, and cut out the area where the pinched wires were, so my amp will be the one with electrical tape on the fan wires....
