Hello there,

This was first meant to be sent to Peter, but I thought it could be usefull for everyone

just a couple of short question

1 - has anyone paired up the Herbert and the Axess FX-1 MIDI controller? I'm about to do that and I'd love to know if the Phantom Power can be achieved from the Herbert either with a 7 or a 5-pin MIDI cable.
If so, are there any differences in how their pins are used or can I go with a STANDARD 5-pin MIDI cable.
I want to be sure before screw up anything and fry my pedalboard OR THE HERBERT.

2 - what about XLR? Is it possible to use the Herbert XLR connection to go from the so-called "Remote 7" in the back of the Herbert to my pedalboard? I was wandering if that's the XLR connection used by the Diezel Columbus pedalboard...and guessing if I can power up the FX-1 as well as sending MIDI messages with that one.

Thanks for your patience as usual and cheers to everyone

Well,

I'm not an expert about this... midi etc... I'm a real begginger, but I can tell you what I saw.

I tried a standard midi cable from the Herby to my columbus, and it worked perfect. Phantom power, and everything PERFECT !...

I also tried a standard "audio" cable with the XLR connections, and also worked perfect... phantom power and midi info stored and sent...

So I guess that it could work the same way with a FX-1 ??? (at least I gues so).

BTW, it would be amazing if you could confirm how the fx1 works with the herbert... I think that is a real amazing midiboard... ;). Please, do a full review of them when you get them working .

I am using the Herbert with the Axess FX-1. It works flawlessly. The Herbert sends phantom power to it via a standard 5 pin midi cable. I set my Herbert to accept program changes on midi ch-2 and a TC electronic G-force to accept program changes via midi ch-1 . This combination has worked perfect, though I'm sure other combinations would work just as well.

The FX-1 is a bit pricey but no other midi controller comes close.I own a few pieces of Axess's equipment and have been very satisfied . I program it via a PC and set up different midi dumps for different bands that I play with. Dealing with Peter at Diezel and Mario at Axees is a dream come true for customer satisfaction.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies.
I'm now waiting for anyone who will chip in about the XLR for sure. If the phantom power/midi channels are the same, that will be a real + on the Herbert/FX1 match (I personally think XLR are more reliable than MIDI cables).
Seems, though, that a standard 5-pin MIDI cable will do the trick for now. I'll try it and then I'll post results.
After that, I'll have to bare her majesty "THE SWITCHBLADE GL". That will be fun to play with. I'm facing the MIDI world for the first time, but I'm spending hours on these things. Possibilities with the GL are endless. I'll have to post also on that, but first I want to get the Herbert and the FX1 work well together.

Keep it coming ppl and thanks again.

Emanuele
