Alright, I've got an Einstein head going into a Bogner 2x12 and I love it. Within the next week, I'm going to get a Herbert Head and when I do get the Herb, I'm going to post clips of both. It should be a fair representation of each amp because the tracks will be the same performance reamped through a different head.

What I'm finding with the Einstein is a great "brown" sound with some extra girth/grit. The reason I'm getting the Herbert is because I want a tone so vicious that it will raise the dead souls the devil claimed.

So here is my question, to the guys that have both amps or have extensively used the Herbert and Einstein, what are the differences you are finding?

If I'm going to keep the Einstein, it should be different enough from the Herb to justify both amps. I already have a Marshall 800, Orange Rockerverb 50 w Orange cab. So something is going to go and I havent decided which yet....

Thanks

From what I've heard/read the Einstein and the Herber have a somewhat alike voicing (modern) some guys even say they can pretty much nail any tone the Einstein does with a Herbert.

If you want different, get a VH4. But my Einstein ROCKs! :D It's in NO way the "little baby" it's got its own thing going for it.

I found that my Herbert could be dialed in close enough to the way I dialed in my Einstein so I sold the Einstein. A VH4 or maybe the new schmidt will get you a little different flavor to go with the Herbert.

+1 they can be dialed scary close, maybe a new schmidt might cure your gas?

peace
A Wood

Once thing I am curious about is why another 2 channel head? I mean I am sure it will sound sick, but typically or at least me, I need 3 to 4 channels. Just my 2 cents. Congrabs on the Herby. Get ear plugs............she is fucking loud!!!

Don't listen to these guys, they don't know what the heck they are talking about.

or go for the Vh4S or VH4 for the win

well, I'm just like you Sean, but honestly most Class A amp players only need the clean/cruch channels, if they want some other tones they just use pedals. Plus The Schimdt and the einstein are definitely not the same thing.......not even close

There is a good chance both the Einstein and Rockerverb will be going up for sale

Gotcha man, yeah i have never been a pedal guy as I have no patience for all the wires etc.  Hence why I got the GT-10 as it is a midi channel switcher and has all the basic FX right on the floor. Plus I really don't use much FX but chorus and maybe some delay and reverb. Fun having the volume pedal with delay too and the wah. I need to explore the other FX but I am still trying to fine tweak it so I can preserve the Diezels pure tone as much as possible. I am find ing some coloration on the dirty channels, but thank God the Vh4S and Herby have the FX loop on/off switch. :)

Relax relax........I call all my amps and axes by "she" :D :D

oh and I just "him" back from the shop with my EL34's Winged SED's! Can't wait to plug it in right now. I'll make a tone test comparison later tomorrow. I will just take that last demo I did and re track the dirties with the Herbie

Ok, I picked up the Herbert today. My first bedroom volume hour long "jam" first impression is that this is truly an amazing sounding amp that is extremely well built. I'll give a detailed comparrison when I actually have the oportunity to compare. However in spirit of the thread title, my quick thoughs are that both the Einstein and Herbert are as good as they get (to my ears) and it's like picking a "sleepover date" with one of two super hot chicks - either way you win. Hell, I may choose to date both, maybe even at the same time (reamping) We'll see what happens.

Random thought on both heads going through my Bogner 2x12: When I plugged in the Einstein for the first time, I played for literally 15 seconds after months of amp shopping/swapping/being pissed off and unsatisfied and said, "Thats it, I'll take it" and I did the same thing with the Herbert today.

Horns up

I looked real quick and I saw EL34 Made In Russia with the number 1086 on the tubes. So what tubes are they? I don't know. My Einstein has Ruby Tubes in it.....quote]

Nice man, the EL34's should sound dope. Dunno about the brand but experiment around and try different El34's and see what ya like. The guys here got me to buy SED winged EL34's for my Herbert and it indeed inproved the quality of the tone the more I have been playing it since I got it back from the shop.
