To make a long story short. I've owned my herbert for about a year and a half. Channels 1 and 2 sound great but channel 3 has always have given me problems. It seems to have always lacked punch and just an overall "balls". It seems to barely got through the mix and just noisy as well. I'm no expert (that's why I'm here) so I was wondering if you guys had some tips on what I can do or what I may be doing wrong with channel 3. I've changed the v2 pre tube several times and it hasn't changed anything really and I just got it setup for 6L6s. I seriously doubt it's a tube thing so I need to look past that for a different solution. Eq settings are subjective to the ear and no matter how Ive tried setting it, it never has made that much difference from the shallow sound Im getting. Can there be actually something wrong with my Herbert or maybe is it not just for me?? Please help a fellow diezel man!

We should look into Your amp at andrews amp lab.

Please contact Jeff.

I would say the big man is right! Channel 3 just kills and its got the huge balls on mine!!

My ch3 has plenty of harmonics, but it does sound "smaller" than ch2+. I thought it was because of the extra compression on 3.

My experience is kind of the same. What i do is just turn the channel volume up slightly higher, turn the gain DOWN less than ch. 2. It actually seems to have more gain on tap than channel 2 for some reason. I cant set mine higher than 2:30 without it giving me feedback either. I like the compressed tone though. If you wanna lose the compression, turn the gain down. It is very responsive. I also have the mids up higher on channel 3 than all the others as well. You just need to realize that it is a different voicing all together than the others.

I do the exact same thing, easy on the gain and I dime the channel mid, then tame the mids back down with the Mid Cut section of the amp.

Same here. It's as if your double scooping the mids and you get muddy bass and lower volume.
When the mid's are between 9:00-12:00 the Channel volume increases and the tone blooms.
The gain is at full saturation IMO around 1:30-2:00, unless you have a really strong and non-microphonic
V2.

Thanks for all the help guys. I've been trying a different approach with taken some advice and seeing better results. This is why Rigtalk rocks!!
