Herbert loop tube question?

Hey guys, if the effects loop is off on the Herbert, does that take the V4 & V5 (send/return)tubes out of the signal chain? Or are they always in the chain? On my Recto, if you bypass the loop, it takes the loop tube out of the signal. I never use the loop, and may re-tube the preamp soon, so that will be 2 less new tubes I need to buy as I can leave the old ones in those 2 spots. If they're always in the chain, I'll replace them new also.
