Finally have a Diezel on the way, but I'd like to know if it's safe to use my Mesa 212 Recto cab (V30s) rated at 120 watts with a Herbert. All my instincts scream 'no' but it'd be nice to know for sure. I don't see a big problem if it's low/medium volumes.

i used one a long time ago b4 i received my Diezel cab. Worked ok @ low volumes. But if you want to give her some juice....you will def need a 4X12.

Guess this means I stop using my Mesa 412 as a desk. Oy! And maybe replace the 212 with a Diezel 412...

Ironically, I got the 212 and traded away my other Mesa 412 Road King cab because my fiance and I had a small car (Neon) at the time. Then it died and we got a bigger car. D'oh.

You can normally tell when you are pushing a driver beyond it's comfort zone, it will start to clip and distort and not in a good way. Basicly when your sound starts to lose it's shape, you've gone too far and should back off, and not just becuase you sound like shit :)

I sound like shit all the time, but that's my fault :aww:

I've got this problem in spades. Haven't figured out how to solve it yet!

I ran my Herbert through a Mesa Recto 2x12 for a while. I actually really liked the sound, but never felt comfortable giving it any juice.

Yeah, that's my primary concern. D'oh, new cabinet time. Time to break that to the missus. She won't like that. :D

Great tone is hard to fine, but you can pick up a new wife anywhere.

I had a pair of Mesa C90s lying around and I swapped out the V30s in my 2x12 for them and love it. You can pick up a pair of C90s pretty cheap if you look around. Lost some of the mid range growl, but I found I like the C90s better than the V30s and the oversized 2x12 cab kicks some ass now with a 180W rating. I've contemplated throwing a pair of K100s in there too, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I normally am not a big CL80/C90 fan, but I really love the way they sound in the oversized 2x12.

:O :D Actually I told her I may need to get another cab/replace my 212 and she didn't care. Go figure.

Yeah, Mincy, that makes me wonder how the other cab that I don't really use (it's kind of on indefinite loan from a good friend), the Mesa 412 oversized with C90s will sound with the Herbie. Probably pretty wicked. I liked it a lot when I had a Roadster head. Good for cleans and a smooth lead sound but like you said, missing some of the aggression I'm used to from my cabs.

Hey, I dont know how the C90 speaker in a Mesa412 oversized cab sounds, but I have a 412 oversized Recto cab with V30's and think that an oversized cab is not the best solution for a Herbert - it just cannot handle these immense bass the herbert puts out.

I wanted to check out the new Diezel cab ( a fl mixed one), but I wait for more than a four month now to get it send to the local music store :(

With V30s, the 2x12 was good at low volumes, which is pretty much the only way I played it with the Herbert. I started running the herbert into both the 2x12 and a Mesa 412 Stiletto. The 2x12 was flubby for sure with V30s in it, but the 412 Stiletto had great definition but was lacking low end, so the pairing worked well. I ended up selling the stiletto cab and buying a Mills Acoustic.

The C90s went into the 2x12 mostly because I was bored and it turned out to make the 2x12 a much better cab, IMO. Tighter, more defined low end, brighter. Like I said before, it did lose some growl in the mids, but overall, it made the cab very usable with the herbert, and that isn't just because of the power handling.

I'd love to pick up a FL Diezel cab, but I'm short on disposable income at the moment, so it will have to wait.

Income... I forgot wtf that is these days. Only managed to pick up a Herbert because I sold my 58 VOS Les Paul. :aww:
