I know this issue has been discussed many times but I haven't got it clear.
I want to buy a midi looper like the Axess Grx-4. I also need a midi controller like the Rocktron All-Access or the Ground-Control-Pro. Will those midi boards work with my herbert? I want to be able to switch channels, mid-cut and fx-loop like a traditional amp footswitch... On-Off (I think they are called Instant-Switches).
I know on the Ground-Control you can program 8 instant switches and on the All-Access you can use 15 (whole board). I want to be able to use fx with this method too.
Can it be done? Will I require the Midi update for the Herbert?
If not, can the columbus do it?
Thanks,
Emanuele

Virtually any midi controller will switch the Herbert. The "All Access" will do just about anything you could want, It's just a matter of studying the manual getting your head around it, then program it for what you want it to do.

Thanks,
but not all controllers are built the same. I want to be sure that the software of the Herbert and the All Access will work together like the columbus. Instant On/Off switches are what I need. Some midi boards don't provide that.

the instant switches are like using a regular footswitch using a TRS cable or the like

Its like manually flipping the mid switch or the fx loop switch.

As far as midi goes, any midi controller will work with the herbert to change channels and what not, but will not fulfill all the mid cut/boost and fx loop controls like an axess would.

I could be wrong about the mid switch controls so dont hang me.

The foot controller alone will not fulfill this. You will need the rack switchers like these

http://www.axess-electronics.com/sc/GRX ... 16135.html

http://www.voodoolab.com/gcx.htm

So you will need a rackmount with the loops and then the footswitch.

Your cheapest option is going the voodoo labs ground controll and the GRX
the best way is either Axess, Skystdrup or Bradshaw
Once Axess comes out with the new rackmount RX2 there will be nothing better on the market that is available to the public that isnt custom made.

Then get the Columbus, and you won't have to worry about compatability. End of story.

I actually own an "All Access" and a Behringer Fcb 1010. I just plugged the Behringer in and it operates all of the Herberts controls, (ch switching 1,2 or 3, Master vol 1 or 2, Mid cut in/out, loop in/out and mute on/off). These presets were programed whilst the "All Access" was hooked up and works exactly the same with the Behringer. I'm a little lost at what more you want the foot controller to do?

Ok, so you confirm that the All-Access is able to switch in and out, "stomp box style" the fx-loop, mid-cut and 2-master-vol like Columbus... I'd prefer it cause it has 15 switches.

Yes that is why I prefer the All Access, 15 presets on the floor. I also an Axess Grx4 which is a nice expansion and works quite well with the Herbert/All Access combo for extra pedal/rack loops. Btw you can set up the footswitchable Herbert loop to series or parallel.

Going further down the spiral,
will the columbus work with the Axess GRX-4?
I mean, will it provide the right Control Change signals?

I haven't had any experience with the Colunbus but I would say it would work with no probems. The GRX4 works on a similar pricipal as the Herbert (midi wise) just store your preset routing, the your midi controller tells it what preset to go to. You would more than likely run the midi out of the herbert to the midi in on th GRX4.

can't you just plug a Ground control Pro or the old Ground control right in? Worked with my Vh4. All I did was plug it it, and boom set up presets
1 CH1
2 CH 1 with Chorus in Channel insert
3 Ch2 Mild drity
4 Ch3 rhythm chug
5 CH4 lead with delay in channel insert
6 Mute

I don't want presets... I want control the single fx and option on the amp so it's like:
1 CH1
2 CH2
3 CH3
4 Mid-Cut
5 Fx-Loop
6 2 Master Vol
7 Fuzz
8 Delay
9 Chorus
... and so on

do you mean analog effects like stomp boxes? that's the same thing i want to do

then i think you need a looper ( that works on midi too ).

if the pedals are on the loop and they are like...2 or 3 you can simply keep them ON and switch the Loop on or ofs as desired ;) preparing the one(s) you want to be on, before you activate the loop.

The only pedal I use is a chorus pedal I like to run usually in the FX loop and blend it in. A tuner pedal as well. I had a G-Force in my boogie rack I sold off, but I found I just am not an FX guy. Just like delay when I play lead, and chorus when I play cleans.

i just bought a Rocktron Xpression rack multieffect processor....but it bitterly disappointed me.
rack digital effects -midi technology is really good to save presets leaving the worry to click 100 pedals..ok...ok...but the sound... oh my God....so poor...

that was my personal experience with the Xpression.
so i'm going to sell it..

i'll replace it with some analog effects like a good chorus ( i like so much the Red Witch Empress), maybe a flanger or a phaser and last..if i need one a reverb

for delay the Tech 21 Boost DLA is already at home :)

i'll be the rhythm guitarist of a Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell cover band.

so i won' t need a wha-wha..or other effects

No offense meant, but that sound more like a configuration problem than poor effects quality to me. I've been using a Intellifex LTD for quite a while now and the effects quality is great. I use it in the parallel loop of my VH4 and haven't had any problems or tone sucking issues.
