My Herbert only has 5 pin midi jacks on it. Is this normal? I've been looking for a new midi controller and many need a 7pin cable for phantom power, so I'm thinking this is going to be an issue. Serial # 001/081 if it matters. Thanks.

Umm...one of the Diezel boys can answer better. But, depending on the pedal you have (or do you have one yet)...you can do a 5 pin controller like a GCX or some of the other brands. Get a 5 pin cable with all 5 pins wired (MIDI xmits over 3 pins and pins 1 and 3 are wired for phantom power). Make sure though from the others before you buy a controller.
Currently I have a Behringer FCB1010 that I've modified to take phantom power on pins 1 & 3. But it's not holding up so well these days, so I'm looking for something new.

yeah, I've been looking at new ones that take phantom power on only 5 pins. There are plenty out there, I just happened to notice the jacks when a friend of mine offered me his ADA MPC cheap and I didn't have 7 pins to feed it phantom power. Didn't know if that was normal on the Herbert or what.
I've looked at all of those. I guess I'm just waiting to find the right deal at the moment. I haven't opened the herbert up in a while, but is there an easy way to convert it to a 7 pin jack? If not, I guess it's a minor issue to limit myself to 5 pin controllers.
Thats easy. The midi wires are colored, just write them down, install the new jack and hook the outer PINs (two on each side) together - done. 5 minute job . . . (at least in a VH4 - let somebody else confirm that they are colored in a Herbie as well) - or color them yourself.

Excellent! Though after telling me that, I feel like I should have been able to figure that out on my own. Maybe during the next tube change/rebias, I'll kill two birds with one stone. Thanks.
