Just bought a Herbert and eagerly await its arrival. Now I must face my first sojourn into the world of MIDI switching, and admit that at this early stage, I'm overwhelmed and confused! What I'd like to do is rather simple I think. I want to switch between each channel with the following engaged -

Ch1 - with and w/o delay & light reverb
Ch2 - 2 different amp eq settings (maybe + on one, - on another or something)
Ch3 - with and w/o delay
Ch3 - with delay and slight volume boost for solos (maybe with an eq adjustment as well)

So, I'm now trying to research a simple midi footswitch to do this and then program the settings. I've downloaded the Herbert manual this morning but not read it just yet (about to do so). Anyway, is this easy to? Any tips or links to tutorials anywhere? Recommendations for inexpensive foot controllers? I know there's the ground control, etc... but given the limited things I want to do it seems like they're a bit overkill.

Anyhow, thanks in advance for your input!

programming the herbert is easy for midi. so what you do is have your foot board
on pedal 1. now go to the herbert and set up which channel you would like to use
when you push one on your board. you will see there is a store button on the herbert
push it twice now your program is saved. and eq setting are not midi controllable on the
herbert. and if you want to swith the -/+ on fly you need to mod the amp and wont
work on midi just to let you know.

Ah, I see. Well, not having the amp yet I wasn't sure if +/- settings were midi controllable or not. Just trying to say I might want to setup a different eq for a single channel or something. So, any tips on a good foot controller to do this??

I've have used a behringer FCB1010 its a really cheap board and works well with
the herbert. I'am curently using a boss FC-50 its a smaller board but i dont have
a huge midi rig just need it to switch channels. I paid $150usd for my boss board.

Sorry i made a typing error on my last post eq is not midi controlled on the herbert

I´ve had some experience with the Behringer board.
Yeah it works but the feel of the board is that it wouldn´t survive a tour if you´re out playing alot.
If you´re not going to use alot of stuff I´ll recommend the Voodoo Lab smaller pedal or a smaller Rocktron.
Otherwise the Columbus or Voodoo Labs ground control pro

ive used a columbus, which is very sturdy and built like a tank, and a ground control pro which is also good.

Thanks. What about a Rocktron midimate? Is that pretty easy/straightforward to setup? Bear in mind all I really want to do (basically) is change each amp channel and bring the delay and a vibe pedal in and out of each. Pretty simple I think... or not?

I use a Roland FC-300 w/ the Herbert, it works great. As a Rivera dealer, I can tell you they make something called the 'Headmaster' which works awesome as well. The Columbus is cool too.

Only thing is, the Columbus is quite pricey and there are other controllers that should work well without having to spend quite that much. I don't want to get something super cheap and potentially problematic, but would like to avoid 6-700$ expenditures for a footswitch if possible. Particularly given the simple setup I'm wanting.

One thing I've not asked yet - Do any of the controllers you guys have suggested come with the midi cable? It's hard to tell from website descriptions whether they do or don't.

not to spam the thread but seeing how it is my Herbert on the way to you :D you should just get my Voodoo Labs Ground control pro for $350 and be all set.

True enough Brad, but I'd never in a million years leverage all the functionality it offers. A touch too complex for my simple needs (and mind ;-)) I think?

Might want to check out the Liquid Foot Jr. I imagine it would easily cover all your needs in a nice small package, plus it can also be powered by the Herbert's phantom power via 7 pin midi cable. Not sure if Jeff is actually shipping them yet but if not it should be very soon. Plus he's an awesome guy and has great customer service, I bought the Liquid Foot Pro from him not too long ago.

I use a Columbus with a Rocktron Xpression. Made some videos on how to set them up easily. PM me if you need the URL.

Just reading through an old thread about the Rocktron Midi Mate and am confused.... does it get phantom power from the Herbert or not? Is a cable mod still needed to do this? I'm interested in the Mate due to relatively good reviews/reputation along with -of course - price. Seems easy enough to setup as well. However, the whole power/polarity issue has me concerned. Does it come with a cable and will that cable work or no??
