Hey,

some time ago I bought an ISP Decimator Pro Rack G for my herbert.
Some of you told me (Pauly for example) that they dont need it, even for highgain sounds.

When I plug in the guitar, but close the vol pot on the guitar,
there is still some hiss on chan.2 and 3. Therefore I think there must be a bad preamp tube.

If I turn the gain-knobs, it changes, but stays. If I close the vol pots, it goes away completely.

Some time ago Peter posted some tricks to detect which tubes could be wrong.
In conclusion turning the channel vols should hint V2 or V3 would be defect.

I tested all 6 preamp tubes with a working one and could not get rid of the hiss.

Any tipps?

Sounds like it's just the amps idle hiss on the gain channels.

Ok, than I can life with that.

It just sounds from some other members like herbie should be dead-quiet.

When I go to channel 3 and its LOUD with the gain past noon.....I have the HISS as well.
;)

No biggie.

I have a little background hiss on all channels almost unhearable on CH1 (..and i'm a lot paranoid about hiss..hum etc..  ),
on ch2 -/+ and ch3 on the idle hiss is of course added the pickup enviromental noise and active midcut adds itself a bit of hiss.

End of the story? i don't need any gate at all even on ch3 gain at 2 and midcut engaged..and i repeat i'm very paranoid about it.

it all depends. you should consider sound to noise ratio. if your playing volume is loud, it's totally fine to have some hiss, I don't even know why it would bother you. compared to many other amps it's so low, that it isn't even funny.

Mine is also dead quiet if I use the isp system, but I was worried that maybe I just blend out a non-working preamp tube.

But glad to hear it's the same for you, then I dont have to worry about and will just reinstall the isp

Maybe its because I never had another tube amp before ^^

my Herbert & VH4s are still quiet like mice :D . Even @ high volumes which i love playing at. I used a Decimator once & thought it sucked some character out of the amp.
