Herbert Serial number 001/335 ???

Mine is 001/595 and I got it straight from Germany in August of 2006. That being said, that one is likely a 2005 or 2004. Hopefully Peter will answer. Mine was one of the first with the tube fault LEDs. I'm not aware of any changes after that.

Does that one have external bias?

I have 001/369 i have the external bias points i believe those were introduced after 300

I thinkl it was Ed Yoon from Tone Merchants who
brought up the rumour about the revisions.

We made small changes from time to time to optimize
the circuit but there are no MK1, MK2 or MK3 versions.

We built the first 30 with woodgrills and these were
called later MK1 by Ed Yoon, we never stated about
different versions.

There is also some guy who said that we built a MK3
version. Sorry, I don´t know about that.

Best,

Peter

While on the subject Peter. How would my P-004 differ sonically to the production models?

Peter,
What would you say the year of production is for 001/335?

Wow, I wonder what mine is then? 001-277

I bought it new from a Dealer in 8/2007 and was told it was new?

 uhoh...I picked up my first Herbert S/N 001/700 in February 2007, and that WAS new (picked it up right off the back of the Salwender/ToneMerchants truck) -like you could still smell Germany on the box!

IIRC, there were 2 or 3 other Herberts in this new 2007 shipment - 001/683, 001/695. I believe that 001/683 went to the Anaheim NAMM show that year (2007). I recently picked up Herbert #2 which was 001/10XX. So, based on that, I'd say that late 600's/early 700's are 2007, with Herbert 1000 just recently being issued.

As Peter's always represented, later versions always have the external bias points with even later versions (circa 2007) having the ext. LED fuse indicators.

They did disclose to me that it wasn't the latest version coming out with the external bias points so I'm cool with that. They did tell me however that it was "new" in the fact that it had not been previously owned, thus was under full manufacturer's warranty? The thing that's sketchy to me is that it came with four EL34's (outer) & two 6L6's in the middle duet which correct me if I'm wrong, is not how these are shipped from the factory? I'm completely satisfied with the amp & all, I would just like to be sure that it's not a pre-owned amp & is under full warranty as I was told. Otherwise, I would have waited for the newest revisions to become available. I'm also curious as to the year it was manufactured?

Thanks for the info!

LEDs came on in mid-2006. Mine was one of the first in the USA shipments to have it and I got it in August 2006 straight from Germany through Tone Merchants.

thanks for clarifying!

My Herbert serial number is 001/334 and there are no LEDs above the fuses.

Anyone or Peter, I was told that it was the latest Herbert model with all the tweaks, do you know if this is the case. I bought it from Tone Merchantsabout two years ago.

It probably was, at the time you bought it. I bought my first Herbert in late 06 or early 07, and it had the bias points, but not the LEDs

Yep confirmed.
"Date of production: 001/334 = 21.05.2006"

It is the latest sonically and it has the external bias adjustments, but no LEDs above the fuses.

However, I found what I think to be a better solution to the fault LED feature. My local electronics depot here in San Diego carries carbon-fiber fuse holders (not plastic) for several types and sizes of fuses that have a fault light built-in at the rear of the fuse holder. Problem solved! They were $4 a piece and well worth it.
