Hi,

I'm having a problem with my Herbert,
I didn't use it for some months, I turned it on a few days ago and the sound wasn't what I remember of it.
The sound is not tight, and is very grainy and dirty.
I'm going to try to replace the preamp tubes, I think that I don't have any spare power tubes at the moment.

Should I look for something else?

Thanks

try it again - sometimes ears lie to you.
you don't have the same hear feeling everytime.
was the same with me - after i played for some days
a moddeling amp, 'cause i could not play that loud.
again at the herbert i missed lots of highs and the distortion
wasn't like i thought to remember.
i didn't change a thing and love the herbert sound again.
if you are not satisfied further on, write a mail to peter.
i'm sure he can help you.

Thanks for the suggestion,

But I don't think that's it.
I was reamping some tracks with some amps and I couldn't dial a tone I would like with the Herbert.
Whatever I did, the sound was always very dirty and loose, something that I always considered the Herbert to not be.

doesn't sound familar to me neither.
never had a loose sound with the herbert.
there must be something wrong with the amp.
yesterday i had the possibility to check some different cabs
with the herbert at very loud volumes, they all sounded different,
even with the same speakers.
the weakest sound i had with a hughes & kettner cab with V30.
my cab with V30 sounds much more ballsy.
btw it is not a diezel cab yet, but i'm starving for already :D
what cabs you use?

You might want to check if the 22 uf 500v caps on the board have goo or foamy looking stuff coming out of them. When they go bad they can do that sound you speak of. The Ruby Golds that Diezel use to use are prone to that for some reason. Last time I heard, they use Illinois capacitors now, if they have the goo/foam take the amp to a tech or send it to Diezel and have them replace them with Illinois caps and it should go away.

I have several different cabs but right now I was using a Mesa V30s and a Bogner Uberkab.

Thanks for the info, I'll have a look at it.

The transformers are buzzing louder than normal (I think) and in cycles going up and down in volume.
Is this normal?

I'm not having great luck with Diezels... :aww:

you should really get in touch w/ Peter or Terry. They will help you out and you will be smiling again with the sound of your Herbert! These guys will go to the end of the world to help you...trust me!! :D

I suppose Terry is from the US.
I didn't filled the location field. I'm from Portugal.
I'll try to call the office in Germany.
I didn't do it before because the last time, I called several times, nobody was available, I left my contact number but nobody called back.
By email thinks were not easy to get replies too.
On this forum things were faster to get a reply from someone from Diezel or opinions from other users

be a little patient - imagine that peter cares for his customers all over the world!
maybe he's lil busy by the moment.
where did you buy it - isn't it easier to contact the seller first?

I bought it in Portugal but there is no distributor anymore for what I know.

I called today Diezel HQ 3 times at about 12.00, so I left a message in the answering machine but nobody called me

The last time I had a problem with my VH4, I also left a message but nobody ever called me.
Maybe it was bad luck both times.
Should I expect for someone to call me?

I wouldn't wait for a call, I know they are REALLY busy at the moment, they've done 2 trade shows recently, and there is only a handfull of people in the factory (like 5 or 6 I think), and no dedicated reception staff. Given that, as stated above, they deal with enquiries all over the world, I think you'll have to wait a little, annoying I know, but there are only so many hours a day you can work.

Email is your best bet I'd say.

friends,
i know that peter will answer back as soon it is possible for him.
guess lot of work, you can imagine, has to do with the new amp schmidt!
don't forget there was the ffm fair - world's biggest - and there is of course
a lot of work coming after.
for me the herbert is the fucking best aggregat man ever made and i'm very proud
to own one.
be lil relaxed - sure you get your problem disolved.
if not kick peter's ass :gethim: :D
