I am looking to get a Herbert, but at the moment all i have a 2x12 Diezel cab with 1-V30 60 Watt speaker & 1-Tophat G12 30 watt speaker. The cab is rated 4 ohms mono & 8 ohms stereo. Would the cabinet be able to handle a Herbert? Maybe i should just go for an Einstein.

Close call I guess, but unless you crank the Herbert WAY past noon, I think you should be ok....maybe you need to look at another cab, not another amp? ;)

So how's the standard series quality compared to the custom shop?

Maybe if i replaced the Tophat 12" for another v30 60 watt it will be better? Or do you think the Herbert is just too powerful for the 2x12? I'm only going to use this amp for home use and recording. I appreciate all your responses. Just trying to make the right choice for my situation.

I use my Herbert with a 2x12 95% of the time if that helps you.

I would up the other side with something closer to the 60 watt. Even if you don't turn up mega loud with a fair bit of volume you could risk overloading the speaker when you palm mute. Two v30's should be fine for most use, you could crank the amp up fairly loud before being concerned with transients. Having the amp at 1 o'clock would be out of the question though, at least for long periods of time. Gig volume should be attainable without worry though.

Take care,

Nick
