Howdy all..

I got my Herbert back in March. I haven’t had any problems whatsoever with the set given from the factory.

My band Altar of Plagues (https://www.myspace.com/altarofplagues) were asked to support Mayhem at the end of November. I gig with three bands and practice at least three times a week. Someone once told me that if you play a lot with a valve amp tubes should be changed every 9 months. Im just thinking safety at the moment. Do you think its safer to change them or stick with the ones I have which seem reliable. They are still very bright so Id say they are ok.

This is obviously an important gig for us and I want everything to run as smoothly as possible.

Thanks in advance,
Bryan.

Hi Bryan,

if you feel fine with the sound you should go on with the built in tubes. Usually tubes fail in the first hours or never (maybe after 10 years ..). What you might experience is that the sound changes after one year of using the tubes, but I don't think you have to be afraid of the tubes failing during your gig .

If you want to change the tubes anyway, do it a few weeks rather than one day before your gig (or after the soundcheck) :)

Thanks Erwin.. That sounds like good advice.. Ya the sound hasn't changed.. Just making sure they are reliable. First tube amp, so I need to be sure.. Cheers again fella,
