Just got my new Herbert yesterday along with a Tech 21 Midi Moose. I want to take advantage of Phantom power to the Moose, so what midi cable should I use? The Herbert has a 7-pin and the Moose is a 5 pin.

the std midi cable i used wouldnt power the pedal. i used an AC adapter. The Midi Moose also has a battery option...which lasts a long time. Got your email...just didnt know where to reply.

I understand the 5 pin will work, but there will not be any Phantom power, correct?

Actually I ordered a MIDI moose and a shiny new 7-pin cable to go with it, and when the Moose arrived I was bummed to see it only had a 5 pin input on it, but the 5-pin STILL powered the pedal... hope this is what you were asking and didn't mean brand specific, because I have no idea what brand the 5 pin was, now with my ROcktron MIDI mate I use a Rocktron 7-pin, didn't match the companies on purpose, but the cable is great.... 30ft long with gold connectors for $24.99 shipped from Guitar Center online!

The cable should have 5 pins AND !!! 5 wires.

Some midi cables have 5 pins but only 3 wires to tranfer
the midi data inclusive cable shield.

Pin 1 : minus / ground (phantom power)
Pin 4 : midi data
Pin 2 : cable shield
Pin 5 : midi data
Pin 3 : plus 12 V (phantom power) 0,8 amps maximum
