Hi,

I have already send a mail to Diezel Support, but maybe this is also interesting for other guys out there.

At today's rehearsal I have turned on my Herbert (Channel) and slowly increased the volume with my volume pedal. I heard a crackling sound out of the box and immediately switched off the Herbert. After I mae sure that all cables were OK I turned the herbert on again. Everything seemed to be normal now but I have notices that the pilot lamps "Replace tubes and fuses" at the back panel of the herbert was lighted for the tubes 1&6 and 3&4. Now I can't say for sure if those pilot lights had been glowing before I heard that crackling sound out of my speakers but I guess not. I played a concert yesterday and everything was fine that night.

What I have still noticed is that the amp's volume seems to lower but it may be due to the fact that the amp is now working with 2 instead of 6 tubes.
From those little boxes at the left and the right inside the herbert (I think those are the outpur transformers) I hear a quiet but steady hum. I don't know if this had been present before but maybe I am driving myself a little bit crazy :) or what do you think?

What I am going to do now is I will replace all the tubes. But I have some questions:

Will I have to replace the fuses as well? If yes, which fuses will I have to by rsp. what's their identifier?
Will I have to worry for my beloved Herbert or is the described above normal if some tubes blow away? What also concerns me somwhat is the fact that 4 tubes blew away at the same time, but as I said above I don't know for sure if those pilot lamps were glowing before.

I am german and will translate the answer from Diezel Support as soon as I get it but I'd also be glad if you could drop me some comments as I am really concerned about my Herbie.

hey Sascha the humming is not a problem my herbie does the same humm
check the fuses and if they are damgaed you may want to replace them
this is what Peter D say's to use

The Fuse is 250 milliamps = 0,25 amps
The Fuse is also slowblow = SB

The German word for slowblow is "traege"
Therefor the German fuses are printed AT
A for amps and T for slowblow.

how old were the tubes sometimes tubes can just go it happens
i would replace the tubes and check the fuses test it out after that

Yes the humm is normal.

I would replace all the powetubes and all 3 fuses.
Olaf once mentioned to adjust the hum trimmer as well.

Thanks for our swift replies. I don't know how old the fuses are but I will definitely change all powertubes and also order three new fuses, thanks.

adjusting the hum trimmer? - I will search the forum for that.

Hey Peter's very fast :) thanks a lot.

Here is what Peter says as promised:

Hello Sascha,

You will just have to replace the broken tube. There is a number on the tube, please send me this one.

Fuses are 0,5 AT i.e. 0,5 ampere slowblow
