Herbert Tubes

I have always been a EL34 guy, but loved the 6550s in my friends Cameron Marshall, it was a beast. The Herbert I have coming has four Penta KT88s and two JJ 6L6s. I have used and heard 6L6's in Mesa Boogies I have owned in the past. Never used KT88's. Can anybody let me know how much difference the tube types actually make in the Herbert and what I should expect from this combination?

First off, there probably isn't another amp out there that is more effected by power tubes than the Herbert.

I haven't heard a Herbert with KT88's but what I've gathered from other threads is to expect the Herbert to sound a little more open with a tad less compression and a little less mid range drive with the KT88's vs. EL34's.

I have EL34's in my Herbert and am going all KT88's very soon.

I liked the 6550 tubes i had in the herb but i went back to el34's.

El34's are smoother and naturally because of the midrange .
What the guys have discribed in the other threads about these tubes are true. And its also true that even when you change one pair of tubes that it will def. make a difference.

Thanks for the input. I should read more before I post. I see there are several discussions on this. My apologies for posting something already discussed. Just excited to be getting the Herbie and full of questions in my mind of how it will fit in the band, and will the other members just disenagrate when I start playing her.
