Hi guys,

What would be the minimum cab wattage you would use with the 180 watts Herbert?
We're talking home volumes, not cranked

Thanks

Depends. Are you planning on ever cranking the Herbert up to its full potential? If so I'd be looking at 60W minimum per cone, thereby getting you into the 240W rating. If you're not planning on cranking the shit out of it, anything can and will work, but ya gotta be wise... Some peeps record a Herbert in the studio through a 1x12, no biggy. But - again - ya gotta be wise.

Peace,
Mo

My friend is planning on using his Herbert through a Bogner OS 2x12 at 60 watts
Even if he keeps volumes low, I don't think it's that good of an idea...

Well, it'd be easy to push limits to the point of damage for sure... But again, you gotta know your gear and be wise about it.

Personally, I don't think the BognerOS212 is the greatest cab for a Herbert - and that's not to say it's not a good cab, quite contrary actually, as the Bogner212 is probably one of the best out there - period. But throwing a Herbert on top?? Regular gigging and jamming?? Not my idea of "stable". Studio, yes. Real life, out there use and abuse - no.

Herbert is just too easy to push further than 60 watts, that's 1/3 of Herbert's power rating.

As Mo said, you could probably do it in the studio or at home at "low" volume, however Herbert shines when the power section is humming. That's not to say it isn't sweet at the lower volumes as well, BUT start raising the volume and Herbert will tear your face off  killer tones.

My point is simply that you get more from Herbert as the Master Volume gets near 12 o'clock AND at that point, your MV2 for solo needs to be higher than that. That is WAY more than 60 watts in my experience.

I use two FL Diezel 4X12's for live. Usually one 4X12 for rehearsal. Good luck with whatever you choose...keep us posted on the outcome.
