I've had my Herbert and V4 for about two years now, each stock as new, both with EL34 tubes. Both are in the control room, with one speaker-line from the "loud" room where there is a mic'ed speaker cab. I swap the speaker-line back and forth between the amps into the same cab. I compress and /or add PCM90 reverb at-will to the mic'ed signal while listening back on some nice Genelec monitors. OK, OK, blah, blah... just want to let you know that the comparison is very consistent, only the amps are the variable. Btw...classic rock and blues, recording only, not live.

Here's what I have found since day 1 first listen (audition at the dealer's house) and it has been true in my studio EVERY time, even when I'm not thinking about it and suddenly realize which amp I'm using with which guitar.

1) The Herbert absolutely loves my Strat and Tele (anything Fender that I own). The Herbert doesn't like my Les Paul, 335, SG.

2) The V4 absolutely loves my Les Paul, 335, SG, Heritage (anything Gibson-esque that I own). The V4 doesn't like the Strat and Tele.

Seriously. It's seems so cut and dry, how could it be true? Anybody else experience or agree with this, too? Maybe what I'm saying is Herbert=single coil, V4=Humbucker. This is why I bought both (holy crap). PS: not a moment of remorse.

3) I rarely change the Bass Treble Mid from straight up noon. You, too? Sounds great there. Wow, these amps are voiced sooo well. Presence, yes, I change per track.

Please let me know if you agree with 1,2,3. thanks.
