Herbert / VH4 Compared to an Ecstasy?

Hello, I've currently got a Bogner Ecstasy, which I love. However, I think I might pick up a second job so I can afford a Diezel! I play mostly rock to metal, and I'm leaning towards a Herbert, but knowing I have an Ecstasy, which Diezel makes more sense? Obviously I can't go wrong with either one, but how does the Ecstasy compare to these 2 heads?

Also, how does the Bogner 4x12 match up with the Diezel heads? I've heard that people really like the Bogner cabs...

Thanks!

Herbert man. Everytime i play the two side by side, there is no comparison for rock/metal to me. And i personally like the cleans way better in the herbert as well. With midi there are more options with the vol1 and vol2 masters. Just the sickest amp ive EVER played in my life.

Nice amps to have...here are mine ;)

I've had the Herbert for over 2 years and bought the VH4 a few months ago. I loved the Herbert when I first played it but never got to play a VH4 until a few months ago. I think I like it better than the Herbert now. To pair with the XTC, you can't go wrong with either. The Herbert will get you a more saturated tone similar to the Bogner, the VH4 is not as saturated, but it doesn't lack for gain. It can do metal just as easily as the Herbert. It doesn't have the mid-cut, so it can't get as scooped sounding if that's what you are after. I always thought my Herbert was pretty tight (especially compared to Bogners). The VH4 is super, super tight - but it's not overly stiff or difficult to play. That's probably what I like most about it.

So if I could only have 1 Diezel to go with my XTC, it would be the VH4.

Bogner cabs pair quite well with Diezels. One of my cabs is an Ubercab configuration (v30s/g12T75s) and the Herbert sounds best through it. My other Bogner cab has a mix of v30s and h30s. I mainly used that with my XTC - though it sounds great with the Diezels. My Diezel cab is identical in every way (except cosmetically) to the Bogner cabs (since they were made by the same 3rd party company). It has all v30s and sounds greate with all three.

If you want to run both heads at the same time - VH4.
Otherwise - Herbert. Herbert is TITs of mids, the richest midrange I've heard when pushed hard. I don't know if my Herbert is different than everyone else's or it's my ears, but the mids & harmonics on this amp are a blessing. I have to admit it didn't use to have such a monster midrange before I switched the caps & fully retubed it. I don't know if changing caps to the ones I did might have affected the sound or not, maybe someone with amp tech experience can shed more light on this.

Good post i was acctually wondering the same thing. im picking up a 101b here in a couple of weeks. I actually found it used at a music store and couldnt resist. Still i alwys keep drooling over diezels. I think eventually i am also gonna go for the Vh4 or the Herbert. Thing is (at least from the clips ive heard) i think i like the cleans on the Vh4. Seems a little more old school then the Herbert. But i like the dirtys on the Herbert. I know both have really good clean channels. Anyways dont know where im going with this but i think im gonna go for the herbert.

After spending hours with a Herbert and VH4, I went VH4 ~ easy for me. I did like the Herbert midcut feature however and can see a Herbert in my future as well.

I own both a 101b and a Herbert, but haven't had a chance to play a VH4 yet, so I can't really help with which Diezel would be better with the XTC. I couldn't be happier with the two of em, though, but the Herbert probably gets 60-70% of my playing time. They do sound fantastic when running both of em via an a/b/y switcher, or using the XTC blue channel to solo over Herbert rhythm. I play both of em through a Bogner Uberkab and OS2x12. Not sure how they compare to Diezel cabs, but I think the Bogners would hold their own with pretty much any cab out there. The Bogner cabs completely blow away my Marshall 1960av. I would like to try a Diezel FL cab, though.
