Hey All;

I love my Einstein-let me get that out of the way. I think it is an amazing amp. I never got to check out the Herbert, but it sounds like somthing I may be interested in. What kind of differences could I expect sonically? How is the overdrive on the herbert vs the Einstein? Clean sounds? I know with the midi capability that I will have more options than with the Einstein, but I really care about the sound being as good as and somewhat similar to the Einstein.

Thanks.

JT

You'll certainly hear a lot of similarities but the majority of tonal differences are due to the different output transformers.
Einstein is a bit tighter than Herbert.
Herbert has more headroom though!

The thrust of the distortion on an Einstein vs. the thrust of the distortion on a Herbert is like the acceleration difference between a street rod like a 65 G.T.O. vs a Ferrari. Both are powerful, but you are comparing 100 watts to 180 plus the bigger trannies for a bigger, tighter bottom end and the third ch of the Herbert which is massive.

They can both be used for similar things, but the Herbert can do some things a bit more ferociously.

I hope this helps you understand some of the differences.

I'd agree with that except to say I hear more overtones and harmonics in the Herbert. Not taking anything away from the Einstein but the Herbert, IMHO, has a bit more of everything.

Sounds good. I am thinking about the Herbert, as so many seem to like it, and because of the midi options for switching etc. I absolutely love the Einstein, but want more flexibility. I definitely want something that can nail the tone of the Einstein and then some.

and the herbert is just plain bigger, which always impresses the ladies ;)

Sell me your Einstein so you have money for a Herbert. ;)
