4 =C= 6550s and 2 Penta KT88s.....Is there anything more epic?

I have 6 SED Winged C 6550's in Mine... The only thing I have NOT tried are 88's... Was wondering what the differences Sonically are from 88's to the 6550's...

Thanks,

Roid RAGE

It seems like the amp has a shit ton more clarity. Could have been those fledgling 4 KT88s too...when I got them it was biased at 150ma :lol: :LOL: The amp feedsback soooo beautifully its unreal. Harmonics scream like crazy. I love it!

Man I just can't decide if I want to change my tone with a different tube type or not. I love my tone with the EL34's, but I am damn curious about the KT88's. I just don't want to drop $300 on tubes and then find I liked it better the way it was. :aww:

I am way more impressed with the 6550s than I was with the KTs. Tho I did leave a pair of them in just for kicks :rock:

for me...all 6550s is the the tits!! same goes for my VH4! Love em like a fat kid loves cake! \:D/

How much mid range am I going to lose if I go with big bottles?

i dont think u will be losing any . I run my mid @ 12 or 1 oclock..and have plenty...so you could always give it more channel mid if thats your fancy.

i play my marshall jcm 800 with 6550 and its THE SHIT.
so muscular and strong. the mids are awesome.
paired with my einstein it the perfect sound for me.

GO WITH 6550´s

I think it's not the mid RANGE you loose with 6550s, it's more about the character of el34... they have more growl in there

Thanks for the replies.

The reason I ask is now that my band has taken on a second guitarist I am up against a Triple Rectifier in the mix, which as most of you know is very mid focused and cuts like a razor. The Herbert does just fine with the EL34's but I have the mids at 2:00. I am not wanting to switch to any tube type that is more scooped in nature.

I have always heard that the KT88 is more like the EL34 and the 6550 is more likened to the 6L6. If that is true I think I would be happier with the KT88.

Fortunately, he won't be getting back to you on this because he is long gone. :rock:

Just ordered 3 pairs of Ruby EL34's from Dougstubes.... literally talked to him for about 30 minutes on his cell phone (mind you he has no idea who I am, just a potential customer) and he helped me decide on the Ruby's with the Average distortion rating... I haven't ordered tubes from anywhere else so I can't compare... but I don't see how the customer service could get much better... they arrived on a wednesday (I ordered on a Saturday afternoon with credit card) and were packaged great, tons of padding for the tube boxes, and every individual box had a couple peanutes hand placed in the box so they didn't rattle around... good luck with your choice, I would def recommend Doug though!!
