I've been lurking here a while, since I picked up a Herbert in April, and have learned quite a bit about this awe-inspiring amp (you're a magician and a genius, Peter  ) but it took a brain-fart on my part to get me to post. I recently (couple weeks ago) powered up my Herbert with no load-had been playing my XTC, and for whatever dumbass reason, forgot to switch the speaker cables from the XTC to the Herbert  I let it warm up for probably 3-5 minutes in standby before realizing my mistake, at which point I powered down and plugged the cabs in. I never took the amp out of standby, thankfully. My question is, can/will the Herbert be harmed while in standby with no load. My understanding with valve amps is that while in standby, minimal voltage is sent to the power amp-basically enough to power the heater filiments-so not having a load attached shouldn't cause any damage. The Herbert seems to run just fine, and I havent noticed any difference in the tone, but I figured I should ask before risking any real (i.e., expensive) damage by continuing to play it

you shouldnt have a problem Peter and the gang in Germany test every amp with out a load after it is done( i believe 24 hours without a load i read it on here somewhere)
so 3-5 minutes shouldnt damage the transformer now if you had it standby mode for along period of time with out a load that could possible damage it.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think I would've caused any damage that quickly, but it never hurts to ask. At least I won't be so nervous now about cranking the volume a little. Deaf, maybe, but not nervous ;)

No prob !

Thanks, Peter! I am personally still in awe of your customer service. It blows my mind that I can ask a question about an amp, and get a real response from the designer/company owner. I'm not holding my breath while I wait for the same type of personal response from Jim Marshall, Reinhold Bogner, or Randall Smith. The customer service is what will keep me looking to Diezel first, regardless of price (damned import tariffs :( ), when I'm in the market for a new amp
