I've recently had Resistor 48 (I think it was that) replaced and thus my amp has been out of it's shell when in operation (if that is of any significance) but recently it flashed lights on upon being turned on then died, the fuse had died, I replaced it, all seemed fine, no tubes-need-replacing-lights were on, got about 30 mins use out of it, maybe a bit less, tried it today and it's repeated/won't turn on but I'm not sure if the fuse is blown as the fuse is covered in a strange paper like finish that won't come off  I'm going to order some more fuses but any ideas what's happening here Peter?

Has nothing to do with the resistor.

Do You have the right value of the fuse ?

Please check it again without power tubes.

Thanks,

Peter

The new one - E.T3.15AH250V.

Excuse my naivety but power tubes = all 6 tubes?

Pull all of them to see if a fresh fuse survives. If it survives: you have a prob with a power tube. Put them back in pairs and see which is faulty . . .

1/6
2/5
3/4

Excellent, shall get some new fuses as I've run out now (  ) and then try this. Thank you

What are the important factors for fuses that I should type in when searching for them to find the right ones for my (English) Herbert?

3.15 mili amps 250v slow blow right?

5x20mm

watfordvalves should have them (or your shop around the corner if you should be living inn a bigger city)

So was my previous quote correct with fuses details? + actually, my bro has told me he can get fuses from his work so I shall ask him once details are clarified of the correct type of fuse.

Cheers!

3.15 Ampêre, slow blow, 5x20mm, 250V - at least 5 of them (for the tests)

and also ask him for
500mA Ampêre, 5x20mm, slow blow (tube fuses), 250V - at least 6 of them

Excellent, thank you tons for that but tube fuses? I am aware of how to change the fuse by the kettle lead socket in the back where you plug the power supply in but I have no idea of tube fuses? What's this entail?

*Edit* Just remembered the external bias pot fuses, sorry *moron* I've actually done those before too.

Again, thanks tons man, I might have said this before but I've learnt so much from your posts on here and you've answered yet another question for me, so cheers!

Did you mean:

1/6
Then:
A - REMOVE 1/6 THEN do 2/5
or:
B LEAVE 1/6 in and ADD 2/5?

+ When I'm doing this is it only in standby I should be doing so?

put them in pairwise only to see which is faulty. Standby to "run" position

Power off when removing fuses or tubes.

Doesn't make much differnce how you add the tubes, you are looking for the pair that blows the fuse, when the fuse goes pop it was the last pair added that blew it :)

So I'd say..

No tubes.. test
add 1+6 .. test
add 2+5 .. test
add 3+4 .. test

So 1+6, then remove them both, then 2+5 etc... kinda goes against the above guy   and switching it all on... righteo, going to try that now if I have time... thanks again

Doesn't matter - both is pairwaise - alternatively or additionally ;)

And when it's got no tubes in turn it on and set it to run?

How odd, have done the given tests and all is fine and now I've put all the tubes back in and it's working. I think the sound is slightly worse than normal though so I'm assuming one of my tubes is in the process of dying but is being a bit indescisive about it
