So we play a show last night to a pretty big crowd, and right from the start the guitar is shorting in and out. Uh oh....

Here's the rig - Jackson Dominion > Mogami cable (new & tested) > Voodoo Labs Micro Vibe (new w/ new tested battery) > Mogami cable (new & tested) > Herbert > 2 Mesa V30 4x12 cabs (rented from SIR) w/ Planet Waves speaker cable (also new & tested).

I of course switched cables, bypassed the pedal, etc... etc... but still the issue persisted. Even had to stop the show for about 5 minutes to troubleshoot. No dice. We muddled through the rest of the set, but when the guitar signal is shorting in and out it makes for a sour experience. Threw the band off its rhythm of course, and destroyed any notion of proper performance on my part. I was too concerned about the problem to relax and put on a good show... not to mention play guitar properly so there were tons of errors, etc...

Terry - Let me know when you're settled in so I can get this head to you. Aside from the switchable loop not working it seems there might be something else wrong as well.

That sucks dude. Be sure to let us know what you find. My VH4 has never failed me, but I have an inbound Herbie. Maybe just an isolated case.

Did you try a different guitar? Could be the Jackson's jack.
Also, did you try plugging directly into the head without anything else between the guitar and the head?

Should have mentioned that... yep, I switched guitars to my Les Paul and also bypassed the vibe pedal so it was just guitar into amp. Still the same problem. Major downer as you can imagine.

I´m sorry to hear this.

Terry will take care of it and please remember him
to replace the backboard.

Sorry,

Peter

Will do, and thank you very much Peter

I'd be very hesitant to use Planet Waves speaker cables in the future if I were you. I have some of them at my store, and they don't really 'latch' on to any of the amps very well. Sometimes they come loose and fall out (or come out a bit), and that of course can mean doom for a tube amp. Planet Waves makes great quality cables, but I'd stick to Monster, Mogami, etc when it comes to speaker cables.

Of course, there may be some PW models that don't do this. I have the high-end one that's very thick one.

I have been using the high end PW speaker cables as well, and notice that they don't always stay snug. Good heavy cable though. Was thinking to put me some Neutrik connectors on mine. May do so now that you confirm this as well.

Thanks for this. The one I have is very thick and solid, and seems to connect rather well/snugly. However, I've just gotten a couple of George L speaker cables as well and they are quite good, solid, etc... As for other cabling, I'm using Mogami so should be in good shape (I hope!). Thanks again
