Hermansson Shootout- Recto vs Marshall

Both sound killer. The recto was more full and the Marshall had sweeter mids. Hello blend!!!

Got any info on this?
It’s the 5gs circuit that’s in the Marshall mods with all the switches. The only thing that should really be different is the transformers since he basically guts the Marshalls. I can’t confirm that last part- it’s just my speculation. He’s told me about progress he’s made in the past regarding stuff like the faceplate and it seems like amp development is just a slow process

Awesome comparison! My thoughts about their differences mimic my thoughts about a Marshall vs a Recto lol.

I kinda like the Recto better, the bigger low end helps balance just how bright/sharp these things are.

He's finishing up my Recto this week I believe.

His transformers are GIGANTIC . he sent me a pic . I’m blown away .

I can't decide which I like better lol. The Recto seems to sound more open, wide, more scooped, drier, crisp with sharper highs. The Marshall 5GS sounds to me more juicy, balanced overall, fuller midrange, but sometimes imo a little bit congested in the midrage vs the recto

It was similar with the Marshall 5GS I had vs my Herm Recto's, but think my Marshall 5GS was probably not as good as this one

I also need to play with the switches and settings for sure- I know how to dial in the recto a lot better. The Marshall is absolutely massive in the room like a wizard which is not true of the recto

I like them both and honestly not knowing which is it's hard to say.

I want to say for me I like that left LED when it was switched to that as I like the lower upper mids there more, the bass is more pronounced and chuggy/heavy. But then the one on the right LED is very open and roars a certain way with less bass yeah but more articulation, top end, air and note separation that is hard to beat too and I like that as well.

Seeing both now after reading the left one is the Mesa and the right one is the Marshall. Wouldn't say one is better than the other and the Mesa does seem a bit more dialed in here but they both sound great. Neither is perfect and they kind of offer different things and excel at what they offer. The Marshall doesn't have as much edge and is more relaxed but that isn't bad either.

Put an SD1W in front of that Marshall or Mesa or a OD808 and it would just get better too or something as simple as a 6 band EQ. Hard to pick here to be honest but both sound amazing.

Man I love my 5GS Marshall. One of my favorite amps I own. Crushes… I need to track mine. Lots of tweakability with the amp… think I’ve found what my “ideal” settings are after having a buddy play it while I dialed it lol.
