Just read the statement from Lars, Kirk and Rob. Looks like James has relapsed and will re-enter rehab... Fuck.. Have always fought for this guy and want nothing but the best. And was and am really proud since the last 6yrs or so, his voice has sounded really, really good.. like after all these years, phases, etc.. he was comfortable with who and what he is.. you could feel it and see it. I got to hang and talk with James for quite a bit after his long 2001-2002 rehab stint.. such an honest, humble and good dude. Metallica gets their hate.. but I have been more than a fan since 1986... Wishing nothing but the best for him and his family. Hope he comes out of this for the better.... but just sucks... addiction is an absolute no joke. Lars just released a statement saying he thinks Metallica can go another 20years at some level... and now this. A sad day in this household.. fuck. Cheers and be kind.

I feel bad for anyone who is an addict, but I feel less bad for someone in their 50's with millions who can't get his shit figured out. He has not faced the adversity that 90% of everyday people have on a daily basis just trying to live/raise a family/exist. At some point it's never going to happen for some people. Retire from music for good, sort yourself out. People talk about "demons"..some of them are brought onto yourself. Sorry, not sorry.

This ^^ right here is why I question our humanity and the state of our World daily. Addiction does not give a shit how much money you have, race, creed, age, etc, etc... it is an internal, wired disease that spiderwebs through the best and worst of us. And some's 'demons' were implanted long before they knew what demons were... the mind and body sometimes have to find ways to fight those demons they never asked for... and addiction becomes a way of life. We..and that's you too.. never truly know who someone is, their story, their life. And while yes, some addicts just don't want to do the work and get better... there are so many out there trying. And I go back to the top... it's a shame another thread has to be twisted into something negative.... shame.

that's a tough road to be on, those guys are probably surrounded with everything they need to not do every night on the road. hope he gets himself back on track

Bummer...My buddy owns property pretty close the where James bought in CO not too long ago. He ran into James at a Dwight Yoakam concert in Vail, CO and said he was a cool dude.

All the best to him, his family & friends.

Having a bad childhood screws your head up. Money and fame does not make it better.

And I love alcohol and refuse to say anything bad about it because I don't want it and at me.

Addictions, Mental Health issues, they don't discriminate between social class, race, income level or fame. No one is immune from having real world problems no matter who they are. How many out there NEVER admit to anything being wrong, nor try to seek help? Next thing you know they've passed on. Maybe if they had sought help they'd still be here.
Best of luck to James and hopefully a successful treatment/recovery.

I hope this does make you question. Question why you feel so much for a man who could give a shit less about you and has no idea that you even exist. Why? Because he wrote some cool riffs 30 years ago? A man who lives in a giant mansion, who has more money than anyone you know will ever have and can't get help or does not care to get it. You are totally wrong thinking we are all on "equal ground" fighting addiction. Money matters. Total fucking deluded bullshit. He would be in jail right now, or dead if he were an "everyday guy". These people have the best doctors, the best retreats, the best everything. Sorry if I don't shed tears for a guy who has had every chance on earth, and his biggest loss is having to cancel a tour where he will make millions..again.

^^^Geez... Have a drink, man... Did anyone tell you it's the weekend?

Bummer. I've always liked James. Hope things get sorted out.

"Fail". Yeah okay buddy... put yourself in the position of a guy who is in his 50's, no end in sight of retirement who can barely walk from multiple back surgeries due to working his dick into the dirt, addicted to pills because he has no chance of rehabilitation and no other way out..trying to find a way to make it all work. I guess he doesn't have that sympathy from everyone or anyone, does he? But JAYMEZ HETFIELD...yeah he is the guy we should sit and feel sorry for...a guy with every chance in the world. Give me a fucking break. In his case it's actually more disgusting because he promoted drug abuse throughout his entire career as a "cool lifestyle"..how many people did that effect? Fuck him. It's fucking disgusting honestly.

I remember hearing rumors back in 2012 that he relapsed and when you saw him drinking near beer or low alcohol wine in later interviews you pretty much knew he wasn't really "sober" as it actually is a no-no in AA to drink that stuff since there still is alcohol in it.

Then I remember in 2014-15 cancelled shows due to "stomach flu" but others said he went on a bender and couldn't perform.

Either way I wish him well and can't say I didn't see this coming. I only wish him the best although I am just not into the band like I used to be.

I still wonder if he will be cashing those checks while in "rehab" for all of those Stone brewery beers with his name on them that he is making profit of, or the whiskey he has his name emblazoned on. Or will he donate all of that to people struggling to beat addiction?

Life is tough. You really think mounds of money changes that?

Aloof and above it all.

Ah, so that’s how it all works. We should only care about people that care about us back.

Thanks for the life lesson.

Yes, money does change that in this situation. The ability to afford better care. The ability to afford care at all. The option. Absolutely, it is a factor, without question.

I do believe that for the most part, yes. It's not a life lesson, unless you want to look at it like that.
