Eric -

I see from your sig line that you have an iso box with a Celestion G12K-85.

I bought a couple of G12K-85s sometime in the mid to late '80s and have them installed in a homebuilt oversized 2 X 12 cab that is an absolute tank. I've always liked 'em. Used the cab with my Matamp GT-100 head (which isn't seeing any use right now).

Anyhow, recently I've been trying to find information on this speaker. Celestion doesn't list it. A web search turns up some forums where people are guessing that it was re-labelled as a G12K-100.

So a couple of days ago I sent an inquiry to Celestion's "Dr. Decibel" from their web site. The Doc replied that yes, about 3 years ago the G12K-85 was simply relabeled as the G12K-100. He characterized it as a good all-around speaker. He noted that it is popular with the high-gain crowd because its nice, full bottom end doesn't break up when pushed. My observation over the years has been that it seems to be a fairly transparent speaker but it does have a nice robust bottom and is very, very efficient and loud.

Anyhow, I don't know if I'm telling you anything you didn't already know, but I thought you might find this useful.

I had a Marshall 4X12 loaded with 85's a long while back. It was a solid wall of bitchin' ROCK!!!
