I am getting my VH4 Tuesday! At guitar center (ew lol) they have a used VHT fatbottom cab. The said they probably can let me in with my VH4 to try it out! Anyone know anything about these cabs? I can get some pics if need be. I know it has P50E speakers. I don't know if it is front loaded or not. I want to know also if it was made before ( from what I have heard ) VHT sold their name and became Fryette?

Congrats on the VH4!!

I have a 2x12 VHT cab, which I love, loaded with the Eminence P50E speakers. Its a front loaded cabinet, same as the 4x12's, has really tight bottom end, and doesn't "flub" out when doing arpeggios or staccato runs. At 50 watts, I find that it breaks up a little better then say a set of V30's. Just my opinion.

From what I gather, Steve Fryette lost the name in court to AXL music, whom he had partnered up with. The VHT name continues through AXL music but does not retain any of Steve's original designs, like the cabinets, Pittbull, Sig:X, etc. These are all manufactured under Steve's new company, Fryette Amplification. So the cabinet you are looking at was built while Steve was running VHT, also the P50E speaker, I believe, are exclusive to Steve, which he uses in his cabinets... but I might be wrong with that.

Hey! Oh cool! Thanks for the info! This may just be luck for me that it is at guitar center and its like $600! It is in very good condition! Do you know if I can swap the speakers out with some k100's if need be?

That totally blows that he lost his brand name!

Sure, just check to make sure the speakers are the same impedance, and that the speakers mounting holes are the same. If I were you, i'd try out the P50E's first, I was skeptical but love 'em now

CONGRATS on the VH4!!!!! Wow... That's one stellar amp Bro, welcome to the family

As for the cabinets - Fat Bottom or Deliverance - they've got rave reviews amongst those who own. The rule o' thumb is if you want to maintain a dry crisp sound, go with the Fat Bottom. If you want a little bit of a looser feel, go with the Deliverance. I've done a LOT of research on these cabs as I am in line to pick one up to mate with my new rack and preamp. Stellar reviews abound - a lot of talk about the Eminence based P50E speakers, some love, some hate, but whenever (it would seem) the Fryette/VHT cab has been mated with a drier more precise sounding amp (and might I add the VH4 is almost 'surgical' in its approach and tone), people dig 'em.

I've gone with the Deliverance 4x12 - mated to an EXTREMELY dry sounding preamp and poweramp, and the reason for this is I'm hoping for a bit of forgiveness with the cab - if it's looser - good. I don't want the tone to be too dry, hi-fi and precise. Just a weeeeeeeeee bit of wriggle room from the cab ought to compensate nicely.

PM me if you have any questions about these cabs. noob_pwn is also a huge advocate as are several others out there... Customer Service from Fryette is awesome too - send 'em an email.

Best,
V.

I have the 212. This is an awesome focused cab. The fat bottoms are front loaded. Celestion k-100s and vintage 30s both sound amazing in this cab. I run vh4 and einey through it. Personally I'd go all 100s or mix those and 30s in an X for the vh4. Awesome score man. Happy ngds when they happen.

So considering I know nothing of impedeance and wattage this cab will work fine with a VH4? Also what will the wattage become if I switch it out with 4 g12k100's? I don't know if that effects it or not... I know nothing about that stuff sooo yeah haha.. does wattage mean louder or what haha? ( sorry if I'm being a super noob lol )

Don't switch the speakers, just buy a cab that has the speakers you like. I never tried those Fryette speakers but if you don't like them I suggest you buy another cab altogether that carries the G12k for example Diezel, Orange, etc

Anyway there is no problem with impedance, the cab might be 16 or 8 ohms. And it should be plugged in the corresponding socket before powering up the amp. In case you run more than one cab the impedance should be halved. For example two 16 ohms cab should be connected at 8 ohms. And two 8 ohm cabs connected to 4 ohms.

If you plug one 16 ohm cab and one 8 ohm cab together then you should run at 4ohms as well. Although you'll get more volume out of one cab than the other.

It seems hard it aint. Just match what it reads in the cab and be done with it. You can plug ANY combination in the VH4 or any other amp for that matter.
