for recording in my office....I take it I just need to turn one side all the way off and run one side into the 8OHM to 8OHM output of the Vh4S to the 8OHM of the cab? I stink on ice when it comes to knowing impedance matching :( Thanks guys

Also which cab would you think would be better? i have the front and rear loaded ones. But I think my front loaded is the one with V30's I dont think my rear loaded has v30's. :(

Why not connect everything the way you do in stereo & turn the master all the way down on one side?

Yeah I know that was what I was asking. Was not sure if I wont fry the amp if there is not speaker connected to say...side B etc. Or I could always use a boogie cab and split it 4 ohms as it has that, but I really like my Diezel cabs better with the VH4S. My Boogie rack sounds better through the Boogie cabs, as probably I tweaked all my settings to lend itself to those cabs. Thanks man!

I hope you are going to connect 2 cabs & turn the master down on one. I wouldn't leave one side without a load connected. ;)

Yeah I just decided to use the Boogie. What the hey I know the Diezel cabs lend themselves better but I will tweak. The boogies can be split into 4 ohm on each side so that is what I did.

I suck at impedance.....so is it 4ohm out to 4 ohm in on each side of the VH4S? Just wanna make sure I get the load right . Thanks man!

From VH4S manual

3.4 Speaker Connections
As a rule, the impedance of the loudspeaker to be connected should match the designation of the output jacks that it is connected to. We suggest using speakers that have an impedance range of 4Ω to 16Ω, as singular speakers or in combinations.
Do not ever run the VH4/VH4S without having speakers connected to the output jack ( both sides of the VH4S).
Danger of Amplifier damage.
ΩΩΩΩΩ’s
If you are using 2 ea. 16Ω speakers, then the total impedance is 8Ω. Really -trust us on that. 2ea. 8Ω speakers make 4Ω. This is because the speaker jacks on the amp are wired in parallel mode. Your local library has many books on Ohm’s law.........

You can still use your Diezel cab if you think it sound better, just have another cabinet as a load for the other output.

If you have two impedances that are different you can use R1 x R2/ R1 + R2 which should be greater than the impedance set on your amp.

Formula

So to sup it up as I understand for VH4S you need to connect say 16ohm cab to one 16ohm jack & another 16ohm to another 16 ohm jack. I believe you can use 2 different cabs/impedances going out from different jacks or even 2 cabs on one side & one on the other, similar to having 2 VH4s turned on at the same time. But let's wait & see what official representatives have to say about this....

Thanks man, much appreciated. I just ran it 4 ohm out to each 4 ohm in on the boogie, but not sure if that is correct. Peter?? ;)

why not just run both 16 ohm outputs of the vh4s into both 16ohm inputs of the diezel cab? i play a vh4s into 1 diezel cab in stereo.. it sounds awesome

I never tried that...shit that is a good fucking idea. Too bad I have her down in my office which I am doing demos with. Have a listen to her. Sounds pretty nice. I hate when people say they have not definition or are "fishy" sounding.

here is a snippet from a new demo for my band. No bass and just the begginging. I also dont mix till all tracks are done so you will see a distortion or fuck up sound wise when it goes from the VH4S to the JC-120 for cleans:

That sounds great for a scratch track! I wish you had SM7s instead of 57s. I can't stand that 57 vibe(personal preference). I'd like to hear a little more mid growl or maybe just a bit more gain.

Hey thanks man! I'll post the whole deal when she is done.

i am not so happy with the clean recordings from the JC-120 head. Is there any advice or other ways to record clean guitars that is different than for distortion? Like in terms of mic placement etc. It did not capture what I was hearing live, that is for sure :(

The most of your problem comes from your room. Too much reflections that pile up. I'd bring in some blankets & carpet at least, some real acoustic panels made of rigid fiberglass would do a lot better. The room where you have your amp head seems to have hardwood floors, I'd switch the rooms. Tiled floors won't do any good to your sound. In my experience ribbon microphones sound better for cleans big time. Also I like single mic for cleans.
Do you have anything other than 57s?

yeah the head was in one room, but the cab was outside in the living room. I have SKM27 Condenser, but is that not more for vocals and very sensitive? I never got very good results with cab micing with that, but then again I have not tried it with this set up. Excuse the noob question, but what are Ribbon mic's? :) Thanks man!

Microphones like Royer 121 are amazing for clean work & not only clean. Cheap alternative would be CAD Trion 7000, which comes pretty close.

Your KSM27 should work fine for clean stuff, they can handle the pressure, don't worry about it, just set it up about 4-6 inches away from the grill. But you need to take care of your room first, condenser will pick up even more of those reflections, a lot more actually.
If I were you I wouldn't track clean stuff too loud.

Yeah I think you're right about that, I had the JC-120 loud as heck when I did it. I will try the Condenser on it tomorrow and see how it goes. When it is all done I will post her for mixing feedback. Thanks again man!
