Hey Peter, what do you use to....

Not sure if Peter can reply - he will marry on saturday :D

He has many guitars, Les Pauls (Cst, Stdt, P90s), Strats (JB, Relic, . . .) Teles, ESP, Jackson, . . . and not all of them have Häussels.
An ampbuilder who builds, tests and finetunes amps for more than just one style needs to cover a lot of territories, so . . .

that's what I was thinking Olaf.......

but was curious.

how about you? what are you using to test your DIY amps ?

I know you got an Edwards les paul, a strat..... ? (and what pickups?)

Three japanese Les Pauls, all of them have a Bellbucker Bridge and an Alnico 2 Neck Pickup by Rockinger
Fender Strat with BareKnuckles and a JBjr
Schecter C1 with a DiMarzio Dist. P90s humbucker and a Rockinger P90
and a Yamaha AES with stock pickups (humbuckers).

I'm pretty settled to Rockinger Pickups after I've tried most other brands. They are very well made and less sterile/harsh than the Häussels I've tried (Tozz, Vin+ - both were ceramics, my Rockingers are Alnico - definitely one of the reasons for the huge difference) and are very reasonable priced. 62 Euros compared to more than 100 Euros makes any decision pretty easy me thinks :D

If you should be looking for really good pickups (smooth, but still edgy, round but not muddy, strong but not too compressing) give them a try: http://www.rockinger.de

I have 5 cabinets: Marshall 1960A with 2 G75Ts and 2 Diezel Eminence, Diezel 2x12" with a CL80 and a V30, Marshall 1966B with the same combination, Frontloaded Thomann cab with G75T and a V30s, 1x12" with a G100K (an old closed Session Combo)
and last but not least an old Einstein Combo enclosure (which I will convert to a Duesentrieb 40 Watt combo) with a ToneTubby St. Raphael.
Also I'm using my Marshall SE-100 a lot (a fine speaker emulator and loadbox/attenuator) for tweaking and mostly testdriving at night (thru headphones) - and for burning in tubes.

Summary: I have way too much stuff

lol, man where do you keep all taht stuff! (btw way I have a request! post pics of all the beautiful gear Olaf)

I feel like I have too much stuff too1 :(

How about amps......what amps do you currently own Olaf?

So how do like the Axe-FX? I've heard and read only good things about those units but haven't had a change to hear one in person yet.

Its a cool tool.
Recording is fun again with a modeller, all the amp models and cabs - and of course the stellar fx.
I'm using it (can't live without tubes :D ) with a Duesentrieb-Diezel Preamp, which Peter and I have built (looping the pre into AF).
The VHT poweramp I'm using helps a lot too of course.
It not a Diezel, but for me huge fun.
And its not a unit one can get access to within 20 minutes. Its really complex.

great stuff. I'll look closely once the Axe Fx VSTs come out, might be a GREAT plugin to own for a home Studio.

Sounds good. I already thought about getting a Axe-FX (sometime at least when the financial situation allows it) and use it as fx unit with my VH4 and have a backup if any tubes blow. Would be also nice to use when I can't bring my whole Diezel rig not to speak of home recording.

Yes, the highest order of congradulations to Peter and his beautiful bride. (name withheld until Peter gives permission to state it).
May you both live a long life filled with health, wealth, and happiness together.
