Holy Diver with Jake E Lee

Hi,

Inspired by the (great) center of eternity cover: I recently learned that DIOs Holy Diver was initially written by Jake E Lee. Has anyone ever heard that version? How far is it from Vivians version?

Don't know if that is true or not, but I do know that Jake quit because Ronnie wanted him to play very basic rhythm parts so the guitar wouldn't compete with Dio's vocals.

Jake did contribute to some of the Holy Diver LP, but no one knows exactly what song (s), but Don't Talk To Strangers has been referenced. There are demo/rehearsal tapes that exist according to Vinnie Appice, but they have been kept locked up.

Too bad, it would be really interesting to hear Jakes version. He has such a unique style, very different to Vivians. Would be for sure a great version. If there are tapes, maybe we are lucky and will get the in some future "Deluxe" editions....

Maybe (just guessing) there was a version before Jake and Vivian undid all the changes Jake did. So the released version was Jake-free.

Could of course also just be politics as well. They wanted to push the DIO-line up back in the days. Wouldn't be to cool to have Jakes name there. So maybe they found (a commercial) agreement with Jake....

Nah - he never gave him any credit on Bark at the Moon in the first place...

When I first saw that episode I thought they were doing a cover of Holy Diver.

Listened to it on itunes now and that's really more of a cover version than an "inspired by"...
