The "Blaze II" neck pickup that came stock on my RG7621.

I know they're both Dimarzios, BUT

I'm talking night and day. maximum clarity and warmth with adequate punch.

I fucking love it.

Evo 7 bridge
blaze neck

pretty damn sweet (I'm thinking I should probably try a blaze bridge now)

I liked the Blaze Customs even better than the original Blaze jobbies.

I like the BC more than the Blaze as well. It's similar to the Evo, but not as tight and a little less of the edge taken out. The Evo7 is my favorite bridge pickup after trying a few. Tight, clear, mid heavy, etc. etc.

yeah, BUT the blaze custom is a bridge pickup.

I'm talking about the blaze neck.

I'm confused. Weren't you just saying you wanted to try the Blaze in the bridge now that you got your Blaze Neck?

oh yeah. The reason: The amazing clarity of the blaze neck is VERY tempting to achieve in the bridge spot. I'm thinking the custom is more of a conventional mid-spike high gainer compared to the "similar to Steve's special" blaze bridge.

I think it would be cool.

Standard Blaze is too bass heavy for me. It gets muddy with all the bass and low mids. It's not a scooped pickup. It's just that the mids are centered towards the bass spectrum.

You might like it, don't get me wrong. I'm just explaining why I prefer the BC to the normal one. So far, my favorite 7 string bridge pickups are in this order:

Evo7
Blaze Custom
D-Sonic 7
Blaze

The X2N seems too hot for me, and I don't want to try the TZ7 because it's said to have a very soft attack. The D-Activator bridge pickup interests me, but I'm liking the Evo7 too much to switch. That's about all there is for the DiMarzio 7 string bridge pickup world. :(

Try putting your Blaze Neck in the bridge. I know a lot of guys on SS.org love that.

I thought about trying BN in the bridge, but My best choice would then be.....

????
Paf 7
Air Norton 7 (possibly too hot to mix with Blaze Neck in the bridge?)
Duncan 59 7

Lots use the AN7/BN and the PAF7/BN. I think some might even use the BN/BN. To me, the PAF7 seems like it would be too low output, but it all depends on how everything is setup I suppose.

I rarely use the neck pup anymore, but I've been very curious about the Blaze neck. I've been going back and forth between the Blaze and BC in the bridge - I'm using the BC now (don't laugh at me Code).

I'm going to try the EVO7 next.

I liked the Blaze Customs even better than the original Blaze jobbies.

I've got three Ibanez 7 strings, all quite different sounding.

The UV777 has a Tone Zone 7 in the bridge and an Air Norton 7 in the neck. The guitar just sounds fat. Maybe a bit too fat for some, but I like it, and it sounds great when you coil split the pickups. Used to have Evos in this guitar and it sounded like... well, Steve Vai. Not my thing really.

The RG7620 has a Blaze Custom in the bridge and AN7 in the neck. I love the sound of this guitar. It's my cheapest 7, but it's got this great mid-range to its sound. Plugged in it cuts through really well and has a very defined sound (unlike the UV which is perhaps too thick at times).

The RG2127X has an Evo in the bridge and an AN7 in the neck. Not really sure about the sound of this guitar. It lacks a bit of depth that the RG7620 and UV have. It's the nicest to play of any of 'em though... the neck suits me perfectly. In the mahogany body, the Evo seems to lose the "Vai" character I heard when they were in my UV.

Can't say I've had any luck with the Blazes personally. Sounded like muddy crud to me. Obviously I'm an Air Norton 7 fan. :D
