Ok guys i'm just gonna admit this is my first time doing this so if anyone knows or has done this (with this equipment) before let me know. Any hints or tips as to how to make it sound amazing or work great would be appreciated. In fact any midi whizz with any info would be cool!

I'm looking through the manuals but i do hate feckin :powpow: manuals. I'm a plug-&-play kinda guy

I guess you could argue that this is a bad idea but i had the xt live laying around so i thought i'd give it a crack. Although having said that, i'm kinda scared and don't want to bugger up my stuff, especially the old VH4!!

Show me whatcha got, if anybody out there has anything.......

Maybe this would be a good lesson for the 'tards of midi

I assume you're just using effect and not the amp models right? This really isn't a good device to put into your VH4 unless you can put it on bypass and put it in the Parallel Loop. Sounds "okay" in the serial loop (I tried this when my rack effects went out on me) but getting the levels right can be tricky and can REALLY affect the amp's natural amp tone.

Just play around w/ it I guess, but personally I would get a dedicated effects unit that's meant to be used in a loop. You got a great amp, it deserves a better effects unit!

As far as midi goes...do you have a switching system/midi controller? If so what kind?

To be honest i'm just experimenting. If the results come out better than expected then thats cool. Ive never messed with the whole midi thing and this could be a way to learn? I'm well aware that the VH4 needs a waAAyy better processor. If i could throw a G-force/GCX/GC Pro through it then i would be well stoked. That is some kit that i have been seriously considering.

So did you actually hook an XT live through an amp with midi and all that? How did you do it? So far i've got 2 midi cables going through the Vh4 and XT live. Midi in>out/thru.
I'm assuming that you have to use a guitar cord from the XT to the Vh4 to get the processors sound? I'm thinking i only need 1 midi cable from the Xt to the VH4?

Sorry if I sounded too blunt or like I was assuming too much earlier! I was in a hurry!

However, I only have experience w/ using an audio switcher + midi controller...NOT w/ an amp w/ midi capabilities.

Here's how I did it w/ what I have:

But while I was waiting for a new rack processor, I just had my podxt hooked into my serial loop w/ the amps on bypass and put a midi cable going into the GCX switcher. The Ground Control midi controller (hooked into the GCX) controls the podxt through Midi CC Messages. These are just numbers (like 0-120) that you tell your GCX to "call" a preset. You just have to mess around w/ the numbers to see what preset comes up! For example, just put in a random number like "98" to your midi controller of choice and see what preset comes up on your podxt live! That's it :)
