i think most of you have experienced this at least one time:

forgetting to connect the amp with the cab

it just happened to me yesterday, i recognized it after turning off standby. amp still works as its supposed to be. but what can happen when the amp isnt connected? ?????

On an amp that is not as overbuilt as a Diezel you can fry the shit out of the amp without having it plugged into some kind of load. On a Diezel it's still not reccomended but because of the sheer amazingness of the way that Peter designed them, it shouldn't fry it if the problem is corrected in a timely manner.

Did I mention that it is still not reccomended?

A good output transformer will stay full power without load.
The problem are the power tubes. They causes spikes without
load up to 5000 volts. So it´s depends on the insolation on the
wire of the windings in the transformer.
I made tests running one hour full power without load,
but not sure about the "live on stage" situation.

Please don´t care about " I forgot the speaker cable"

Would it add too much to the cost if there was some kind of protection built-in? Like it wouldn't power up if there was no load connected.

This happened to me many times with many amps, but for a minute the longest. Never had a problem.

that makes me sleep so well tonight ! thanks

As long as you don´t put a signal to your amp, nothing can happen. So the best you can do is always put yout guitar vol. down before you start your amp working. When you turn your standby off you can check everything by turning up your guitar vol. slowly. When you do not hear anything with your guitar vol. low, turn on standby and check your connections. :)

Most common mistake is players standing on stage "turning guitar vol. full open and hitting the strings as hard as possible........"!

"Damn, where´s that f..ing guitar sound????????"

That´s the best way to kill your amp, when no speaker load´s present! :D

cheers, "ACY"
