How do EG5 and Erect compare tone-wise?

The description of the EG5 on the Eggie site says it lives "somewhere between California rectified and Seattle custom shop". Obviously this is implying that it is a cross between a Boogie Recto and an SLO100. Can anyone add some more descriptive terms to this? Is it like the mid bite of a Recto with the smooth gain of the SLO, but without the low end junk in the trunk that Rectos often have?

I'm planning modules for my E2 to go with my Renegade. One slot is gonna be VX fo' sho', but the other slot is either gonna be Erect, EG5, or another VX (for diff A/B EQ settings). I've always like the mids of a Recto, but they can get a little too bloated and fizzy if I'm not careful with the settings, so I was thinking maybe EG5, but wasn't sure how the mids compared.

Thanks!

not even remotely similar, IMO.

the EG5 is like a smoother SLO meets EG3/4 with a gain explosion.

Erect is stiff and recto-ey.

I never really connected with the Erect. It only really sounded right to my ears with active picups.

The EG5 is my favorite high gain module right now. Just incredible.

Gene is right on! The E/Rect is what it is. EG5 is way more versatile and cuts much better!

I like the ERECT for tight heavy rhythm, but it feels stiff as heck for leads. But, as Jeff said, is what it is. Try double tracking with an SL2x in one channel, and the ERECT in the other, and it's HUGE sounding, and mean.

The EG5 is a better all-around module. Juicier and less stiff in the mids, tighter on the bottom, no junk in the trunk, but plenty of bite on top.

ONE day, I will own an EG5 for sure. Me and Matt record with his all the time, and it's incredible.

What everyone said. E-Rect is much more stiff with less bloom around the notes. Not great for leads, but solid for tight nasty rhythms. EG5 is the lead players module. It has a singing, violin-type quality that the E-Rect completely lacks. Whenever we need to record a lead, we dont give it a second thought. its EG5. similarly, if we need some balls for high gain riffage, E-Rect is the winner.
