How do you ship speakers?

I actually may be shipping a quad soon as well, the regular newspaper/double box method seems to work, but I was in FedEx the other day shipping an amp (to you, ), and right after I paid I noticed a new feature in the Shipping & Packaging info pamphlet. They apparently have this foam stuff that they put into a box and it expands around the contents, ideally holding them in place during shipment. I didn't get to talk to any of the associates about it, but it piqued my interest, and if it's reasonably priced it may be the best option if you don't have appropriately sized boxes sitting around already.

Thanks for the help. I have individual boxes but just wondering how to pack around the 4 boxes. I have some white Styrofoam sheets and I have bubble wrap. Is stuffing the voids with news paper a better option?

Also I have the cones facing the top of the box. Whats the right method? Man this almost isn'tworth the hassle

zip tie them face to face and use alot of packing they are heavy and flop around...

A 1x12 fits perfectly in a USPS large flat rate box. I shipped a bunch this way cone down with an extra piece of cardboard in the bottom and never had problem. Be sure to by the insurance.

yup^^^^^^even if you just use them to box the speakers & then rebox them all in one box,... almost like they were made for speakers...

I have those exact boxes. I am thinking of doing two speakers together and zip tying them. Seems like a better way to me.

How much do they generally charge for shipping on a 12 inch speaker? I know distance can change the price, but I'd imagine the weight is most of the cost.

-if my memory is correct $15 to anywhere in the lower 48-

Yep flat rate means flat rate. $15 and change in the USA if it fits in the box.

 yeah, that makes sense. I've only used FedEX/UPS to ship gear before, not used to the flat rate notion.

this
I had a dozen 12" speakers sent from USA to brazil in those boxes

only one arrived with a dented edge, but that was easily fixed by hammering it a couple times with a dumbell
