how good is the digitech gsp1101 for effects?

considering getting one to use 4 cable method on my mark V and getting an rjm mini amp gizmo so it can change channels on the amp as well. It seems like a solid unit and easily programmable. anyone have any experience with one of these?

edit: also curious to know if any of the od's are any good and would be usable along with the V.

The GSP1101 is great. I'm very satisfied with it. I'm actually running 2. One is in front and the other in the loop. It gets the job done, and done well.

I used the G-Major for several years. I like the Digitech better.

More flexibility.

I program any FX that I want in front on the pre unit, and any FX that I want in the loop on the "post" unit. Everything goes through a loop switcher and I can add or remove things at will. Say I have a Fuzz and a Chorus going, and I want to keep the fuzz and switch to a flanger, then I want to keep that same flanger and switch to a TS overdrive or whatever. Rather than have to program multiple presets with similar FX, and use CC's to turn them on and off... I use the 2 GSP1101's as if each preset is a psuedo-pedal.

Also, when do I use the preamp/modelling section, it's not as an actual preamp but more like an OD/Fuzz pedal. The majority of my tone is coming from the XTC.

Hope that makes sense. I'm starting to fall asleep here. I'll re-explain or elaborate later, if necessary.

dude sick rig you got goin on there. Yeah im planing on using the control 2 pedal board with it so i dont have to worry about complicated midi programming. The one thing im most worried about with the unit is all the "pre" effects like od's and compressors. Im sure the delays, reverbs, and modulations sound great and im not gonna be using it in studio or anything but i dont want to get it and have all the built in overdrives turn my tone into crap.

I'm using the GSP for recording (modelling, cabs from impulses) and the Major II for playing with racks/heads. I like the Major fx wise a bit better - but sure, if you want to run a 4CM the GSP is cool with the stompboxes and such - and the loop is pretty cool, I run (for recording) a tube preamp thru it.

The GSP1101 are great for effects and very simple to use. I'd take a 1101 with the beta firmware loaded any day over a G-Major. Maybe not cleaner sounding than the TC but to me, more lively sounding. I went from a 1101 to an Axe-Fx Ultra now.

It coloured the sound BIG time. It plastic-ified my Bogner and my Egnater preamps in a big way.

My Blackface intellifex destroyed it tonally and transparency wise too. no contest. I wanted to like the 1101 so much, but it was just a huge disappointment.

preamp-->1101--->power amp.

line level, series, like a perfect series fx loop.

I only needed it to do good delays/chorus/reverb.

It just couldn't hang with my old Rocktron. It just wrecked my sound

Maybe it's because I am using it differently than most would, but I don't have a problem with any tone loss. It's only in the signal chain when it's being used. When I'm not using the FX, it's just the pure tone of the amp.

I use the OD's, fuzzes, compressors, phaser, univibe, etc. from the GSP in front of the amp and the chorus, flange, reverb, delay in the loop. Sounds no better or worse than using pedals.

Maybe it isn't on par with the pristine sound quality of an Eventide, but that's not what I'm expecting nor looking for with these. To me, it's an easier way to get the tones of a bunch of pedals, with multiple settings, ready to go at the push of a button.

I ran mine doing the 4CM method with a Ebtech Hum Eliminator on a Rm100 and PT100. It worked for me at the time but I had to move on to more expensive things
