I'm curious. How long does it take to build a Diezel amp? Do you have pre-stamped Chassis boxes and such, to speed up production?

Do you really think they hand-drill each chassis just before assembling the amp?

^Why? It will certainly sound better, if they would :)
I am sure if we search enough we will find a long, heated discussion on why amps with hand drilled chassis sound better than machine drilled :)
Joking of course .... I just feel the weekend already.

For the Herbert:

The assembly and soldering of the boards takes 5 and a half hour.
Building the amp is a matter of 4 hours if You get not interrupted.
The headshell takes 2 hours. The burn in with minumum 3 cool downs
and warm ups is 24 to 36 hours. Then it follows a testrun with full load,
another bias adjustment and selection of preamp and power tubes. If
necessary a second burn in. At least a full check including
switching test and sound check. The tubes, the chassis and the
boards get finally pushed for the mechanical test.
If there is any issue or not perfect sound, the board goes into to the
trash can. In 99,99% the transformers are perfect.

And then .............. if a tube fails during the transport and if it
happens to customer which is looking for trouble the internet
knows it in 5 minutes and people will give You a bad call.

But I love my job

Edit:

Don´t forget packaging, shipment documents and the whole
book keeping a company needs.

We love your job too !!!! :)
One of the best built amps out there.

I think I'll apply for a garbage man job in your area. :D

So Herbert is the most time consuming amp you build Peter?

No ...... VH4 takes 2 and a half time more.
It´s a failed construction from the 90s :D

What a perfect failure !!!! :D

I wish any of my failures were as successful as your VH4... lol

Anyone up for "Diezel dumpster diving"

I bet I could get enough spare parts to build a "Herbensteiner 4"

:)
