How many versions of the Herbert are there?

Sorry I am used to HCs horrid search so my first instinct is to start a thread

Far as I know there is no tonal difference between some of the first Herberts and the newest. It's just features that have changed like the external bias points and LEDs.

I have heard differently. I've seen a few different people say they prefer the tone of the older (pre-external bias) models to the new ones.

I have no way to confirm or deny the allegation, because I have only played my own Herbert which is an older version. I am curious to try a new one side by side with mine to see what differences, if any, there are sonically.

I don't know if there are any tonal differences, but differences in tubes and bias settings will make a difference. In other words... If you want to compare an old and a new Herbert I guess you'd have to install the exact same tubes and bias them identically before you can decide that the amp itself sounds different from the other...

Of course.

A friend of mine is looking to get a new one, so I may be able to a/b them after all. I am needing to re-tube mine soon, so I will wait and see what he decides to do and then run the same tubes as his and test it out if he goes for the Herbert.
