I find my EG5 has way more hum than any other module..

On Ch. B, Gain about 1 o clock , Ch. Volume at about 1 O clock too.. Any way to get rid of this, tube swap perhaps?

I've been using that channel all the time lately. I haven't experienced any noise.

It's possible you have noise elsewhere in your rig, but the EG5B is the only preamp channel in your rig with enough gain to make your noise noticeable.

unit placement?
one cheap cable?
pickup not quite being silent?

IDK.

Maybe something I overlooked, I just thought it was the EG5 only. I have a ENGL E570 in my rig as well and that doesn't have any noise at all.

I isolated the M4 with the 2502 alone and that noise is still there but only on the EG5 for some reason, not sure why. I was thinking it's tubes but I guess I'll troubleshoot it some more. Maybe try it in another slot or something if that can make a difference.

sounds like a bad tube, maybe?

I hope! I'll try swapping the SL2 tubes with the EG5 and see if that makes a difference. Can it possibly be the two outer 12AT7 tubes? What are those tubes for?

I always thought the dual M4s had one AT7 and one AX7 originally...Jeff then later said that newer ones ship with ax7s in both positions.

They are there as part of the input/output buffering as far as I know...the lower one (I think is labelled an AT7 on your M4) is the input driver when I asked Jeff. (...from memory)

No clue, I remember seeing a AT7 though, I'll check when I get home from work. But.. Can those tubes possibly be the cause of any hum?

Pretty sure I remember one being an EH 12at7 and the other an EH 12ax7..

Dunno..anything picking up noise can be a cause of hum, tubes included...and the high gain will only magnify it.

That said..I only ever notice hum (from my overhead flourescents typically) when I'm not using humbuckers ..

No hum here......I am using two Sovtek 12AX7WAs that came with the module.

Yeah...sorry we got to talking about the tubes in the M4 itself....so just to confirm, the stock Sovtek 12ax7wa I got in mine don't really pickup/generate any hum either.

I think I got rid of it! I changed the power cord, swapped some cables, replaced some tubes and now it's gone! So one of those may have fixed it. Just to clarify, how do I know if I got rid of it completely? Can I just plug my guitar in raise the volume of the poweramp/preamp and have no output from the guitar?

Problem I am having now is running the M4 in the loop of my ENGL E570. In my previous setup I had the VHT GP3 in the loop of my ENGL E570, and to access it I would just by use Preamp defeat and turn on the Loop. But now with the Egnater M4 in the loop of the E570 it makes some high pitched sound when I switch over to the M4, which wasn't there when I used the GP3.

Guess I'll have to just take it out of the FX loop of the E570 and use one of the GCX loops.
