Hi there,

Just received my "new" TOL100 today. Sounds really good!
I took a look at the powertubes.....At the moment Sensor Svets EL34's are installed.
I have a quad of original Svets (Winged -C-) lying around so I want to install these.

The TOL100 is modified....it as two biaspoints (one for each pair) and a groundpoint on the back.
I have a DMM.....

So my question is.....

How do I bias the amp after installing the new tubes?
It has to be easy ....right?

Also....
What preamptubes do you advise?

Thanks,
Vinni

Well I found out that my quad of Svets isn't matched.

So....apart form the bias and preamptube questions....what powertube do you prefer in a TOL100?

i originally had EH el-34s and liked them more than the sets of GTs i've had in them since.

i've been running a thd hotplate out of the head to try and extract more cranked power tube touch from the amp at lower volume, but i'm feeling like the tubes aren't breathing as nicely as i'd like.

i'm running into my bogner 4x12 and there is plenty of chunk and sparkle in the cab---tyler strat is cool too...

Hi Menatone,

Thanks for the info. I read your topic on HRI too.
What about biasing ?....do you know how to do this?
Have you also experimented with preamptubes?
I'm thinking about Tungols and a NOS PI /reverbdriver lie the CV4004.

Thanks,
Vinni

i've seen the bias pot and have the instructions on how to do it somewhere :D

i've rolled quite a few tubes in the tol and tend to like a brighter higher gain tube in the v1 without the sovtek fizziness.

i'm hoping to connect with myles formerly of groove tubes sag to school me on tubes once and for all!

for as much as i have experimented it is still a very gray area for me...i have preferences just as i have preferences for the types of speakers and pickups i like with certain amps.

Still have the TOL100.

Installed Mercury Magnetics Iron and TAD EL34's.
Tube in V1 is a Tungsol 12AX7. The rest I don't know.
Sounds very good. Had some problems though....had to resolder a couple of joints....now it's working fine.
Having said that.....it's up for sale....just don't use it anymore and it's collecting dust.
At the moment I'm using a JTM45 because I switched bands/music and don't have the need for a multichannel monster.

Cool!

I was talking about the biasing......but ended up finding that info.

find 1 ohm resistor on each pair of tubes

should be around 70mVDC (tubes at -35mV(mA)

adjust trim pot
