hi! probably i'll get an used ada mp1... i'm asking myself if it is possible to plug it on the Herbert's loop in order to switch via midi pedalboard both ( one at time of course, not mixed ) Herbert preamp+power section (whole Herbert sound ) and the external preamp, plus using them with the Rocktron Xpression on the switchable loop for effects.

at the moment i'm using the Xpression input on the switchable loop send of the Herbert and the output of the Xpression on the parallel loop return.
could a external preamp be plugged keeping the Xpression on the switchable loop ?
what are option to use this kind of settings?
Manual says to plug the external preamp on te Herbert switchable return loop.

for example is it possible to recall Herbert full tones (clean, distorted tones) than with effects, so recall other presets using the ada mp1 tones with and without effects?

thanx!

The switchable return should work fine, but it does need an A/B switch to the inputs. The Herbert shunts the input open so you will need a cable in the input jack
or it will essentially be in mute mode and no signal will get through from the ADA.

What I mean by shunt is that the Herbert has a relay that is closed with no cord in the input jack. When you insert the cord you hear a relay
click that closes the input circuit. With a cord in, the whole amp gets no input or loop send/return signal from anywhere.
To remove the effects from the signal you may want to use the switchable loop for effects and the serial return for the ADA.
A midi patch can switch out your loop and then a midi A/B switch from the Herbert to the ADA input.

If I recall it correctly the efx will work only with Herbert, when you switch to ada on switchable return the efx will be off.

You probably wanna put your preamp on the switchable return & use your EFX in the serial loop. If your EFX can be controlled with midi, you should be able to make it work with this setup (hopefully it has a bypass). You do need a guitar signal splitter either way.

thanx MARK2C, thanx nbarts

... uhmm.... that's harder than i thought

i'd like to keep the Xpression as it is, switchable and in parallel, not in series. this could be a problem i guess.

that being said is possible to switch Herbert and ADA MP1 or do i need some external switcher as MARK2C's saying?

i need a schematic or a drawing :P
i'm a ignorant on these things!

- Guitar into Herbert
- From Tuner Out into in of preamp or buy a splitter - Palmer, Lehle, . . . you can even use a cheapo stereo delay/chorus pedal without turning it on, just as a buffer to feed both amps
- preamp out to switchable serial return

switch forth and back via midi

Xpression goes to the normal (not switchable) serial loop then, just turn it on/off via midi by bypassing it

For now, you can just put a guitar cable into the Herbert input with noting connected and
try the ADA through the Switchable return just to see if you like it.

I think Olaf's routing is genius.

I have a feeling you will like it. It's a nasty, nasty power amp.

thanx guys ;)

( actually i don't have the mp1 )

it's a kind of choice between using the preamp and amp switches but putting the Xpression in the normal series loop ( that i don' want to ) so... uhm....

--->to be dorky :) i use the tuner out too :P

From Tuner Out into in of preamp

From what Peter told me, the tuner out is a signal processed by the Herbert's preamp section, so that ain't gonna work.

Then you need a looper, but why not the Xpr. to the normal loop? You can switch it over midi to bypass . . which results the same.

Not sure about the tuner out (I think I once did that on my VH4) - if it sounds crappy, just use what I've said: splitter or a cheapo pedal.

i've always used it that way. I thought it was the best wiring not to affect the sound of the amp and to activate it only when needed.
Sincerely i never tried it on the normal loop. I use the scottph wiring description :)

If i get the Ada months to come then i'll try.

Ps. Why the pedal should be stereo?

Thanx!!

Guitar --> pedal in
pedal out 1 --> Herbert in
pedal out 2 --> preamp in

Eheheeh ;) thanx
ok, now, leaving off for a while this 2 amp config.

What's the wiring to plug an external preamp alone on the Herbert? And of course with the Xpression on the switchable loop and parallel?
As manual says of course -----> footswitchable return, then ?

Guitar into preamp or Herbert guitar input jack?
Last, as the ada mp1 has loop connections, I guess it's possible to stick in it the Xpression.
So the effect could be plugged both on the preamp and Herbert loop.

Isn't all this embarassing ? :)
You're gonna kill me now!
Cheers!!
