I sold my mod50 a while back, and got an axe-fx, which is great for direct recording, and effects.

last night i had a jam for an upcoming gig. man was i disappointed in the tone :( time to jump ship on the axe-fx and go running back to egnater lol

I hate when that happens .several times I have had to buy back things for thinking the grass was greener

I still say you will never truly get a tube amp sound and feel out of all Solid State. Yeah you might get close, might be good for recording, apartment playing or coffee house type gig. Im not saying its not good but if you went to see EVH and he didnt have walls of speakers and amp and used a FOH sound ....well?  As an addition to your system might be good but to just have one single unit for me wouldnt have the same ROCK'N feel.

Hey Casey, how's it going? Haven't talked to you in a while? Sorry to hear the news. Oh well. It happens to all of us. It happens to me with amps, guitars, drums and... surfboards!

I can suggest two other ways to shoot yourself in the foot:
1. Get Kaiser health insurance.
2. Open a Bank of America bank account. (If that's not enough, get their credit card too.)

well if you only shot yourself in the foot once.....your doing fine.
I went back and forth with the module amps FIVE times....
Everytime I did it though.....learned something new and came back with knowledge of the amps and what I wanted and didnt want.

Been there too. It's like jumping off a cliff hoping to reinvent your sound. If you gain a bit of knowledge, it's probably worth it!

I heard a great quote that relates to this: "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want."

Uh-oh, now you've done it!!!

It worked out for me. I went from a 1959x to 11R, to an Axe-FX, to a Spider Valve mkii, to a Renegade!!! So without this digital excursion I might not have the Renegade now and I've never been happier with an amp. :)
