Hi there I am new to this forum . I am looking to buy an M4 or a Mod50 for church . I have been hearing some killer tones on you tube and other places . I like the versatility of having different sounds and amp tones etc..I am new to the rig set ups . I currently have a Rocktron Prophesy to BBE sonic maximiser to mersa 20/20 and Marshall stereo 412 . I had this set up I was going to use in a different church but I never did like the sound , then we ended up changing churches .With the smaller church and type of music we played I used my traynor with a line6 m-13 into the effects loop .

Now we are adding musicians and changing our playing style ,and I would like to get back into improving the rack . I plan on selling the prophesy and purchasing either the Mod 50 or the M4 . I like the idea of the M4 because there are more modules to chose from . But I wouldn't know the best way to add effects w/o the effects loop , hence the idea of the Mod 50 . I was also thinking of buying some rack effects as well , tho I do like the m-13 for some things , it can get noisy and changes the sound a little too much going through the front .I was thinking of a bb preamp for the front for a little boost , and maybe some people on this forum would have a good suggestion for some good rack type of effects . g- force , g-system , eventide etc..

And maybe some suggestions for the best way to go in regards to the M4 or mod 50 . I also like the idea I have heard , of where you can add a device that lets you really crank the tubes with out having too much volume etc.. ( THD hotplate I believe it is called ) I could see this with the mod 50 as it has a power amp , but would there be a point to this if I went with the M4? I want to have the modules that go from really clean like fender , with just a bit of dirt if needed ,but also has really smooth lead tones . ( Michael W Smith ,Hillsong , Lincoln Brewster ) I don't think I would use the recto types ... I also like to play it outside of church as well .Boston , Kansas , Van Halen etc..so I would have to do some module research as well .

Thanks guys , i am really new to this as you can see .

Get yourself a Randall RT2/50 and a M4. All rack units have a effects loop...a series one ;). It comes in between your outputs of your M4 and your inputs of your power amp! :) :) :)

That's what I do. Guitar -> M4 -> Effects Processors -> Power amp.

But the Mod50 is a great amp too. Both are killer options and can do all what you want :)

Thx man ! I will do some research on the Randall amp ...

what do you recommend for a good effects processor . ?

Well I'm naturally biased... But I love the Lexicon MPXG2 honestly. But the TC Electronics G Major 2, the G System, or the G Force are really good...or the Lexicon MPX-1...or the Fractal Audio AxeFX.

Get one of those from the list, and you'll be golden! :) I also use the Line 6 Filter Pro / Mod Pro (the rack version no the pedals) and I really like those for what they do. The Echo Pro by Line 6 is really good too!

I love my Mod50 for use at my church. I typically use a T/D for cleans and grit (though I plan on getting a VX to replace it), and either an EG5 or COD for dirty stuff. I have rarely received complements on my tone, but since I got the Mod50, I have received comments almost every week from someone. Great Stuff!

Yeah Mod 50 would be cool as well ...real hard to decide. Only 2 modules , but don't need to buy the power amp heh .But I might have to get a THD Hotplate , so I can keep the volumes lower .

I live in Canada and there are not many egnater dealers. But I did notice that Randall has similar amps with modules , as I was checking out the Rt2 50 . But the videos didn't sound quite as good as the vids I have seen with eganter .

I also like the Lexicon stuff- if you are into effects rack. For footpedals, I think the Boss stuff can't be beat. I have the DD-20 delay and the CE-20 chorus and like them a lot.

A lot of people seem to like the Digitech Hardwire stuff also.

Mod5o is great all in one. 2 mods still give you 4 channels and it is very transportable. The M4 and RT2/50 I think are a perfect match but the RT alone weighs in at 50 pounds, ad the M4 and 4-6 space rack and you will really appreciate a roadie   The mod50 and an Egnater TM212 and your golden. I have them all including the RM100 and wouldnt move my rack to often but wouldnt have a problem with the Mod50 and TM212 cab. just my 2 cents.

Thx alot for the replies guys ..

I am currently leaning towards the Mod 50 , only beacause somone pm'd me that they have one for sale ,and I wouldn't have to wait to get one built . I am just trying to decide how I would run my effects . I have the line6 m-13 , which I like to use for some delays . I was thinking of the G system , but not sure whether to go through effects loop , or use the amp loop on the g system . I also heard a clip of a guy on You Tube , "mentoneman " who has his egnater going into a thd hotplate , then straight into his G force , which sounds pretty awesome to me ...

all a little confusing

both the m13 and the g system can be run in front of and in the loop of the amp at the same time - the "4 cable method". typically you're going to run drives/compression in the front end and delays/modulation in the effects loop, although there are no fixed rules. if you already have an m13 i think you're pretty good with that, it's a good unit.

Yeah I have tried the 4 cable method for the M13 and felt that it thinned out the sound a bit . I ended up just using the effects loop for chorus and delays . I am getting an Exotic Bb preamp for a little boost at the front , a compressor would be good as well . I am kind of liking the options for the G system , channel switching and running pedals through it , providing it doesn't change the sound . If only I can find a dealer up here in Canada so I can try it out .

Im using the Gsystem in front of my Carvin Quad X into a RT2/50 with 6l6 and GL KT88's. Still working on the effects loop thing with it. The Quad X has 4 loops/1 for each channel and a master loop and a rev loop. They must have been a little loopy when they built it.

Im waiting for the rack mount line6 M13... heard there is one in the works :D

I think the G system works best with an M4 (insert loop)and RT2/50 set up.

Cool ! rack mount m13 would be interesting ..

Well I have purchased a used mod50 . so can't hardly wait until it gets here and am really thinking about the G system

we use the Mod 50 vx/sl modules, a Eganater seminar amp, TM 4100. 3- 1x12 oversized egnater cabs, GC egnater 4x12 cab and a couple of other rigs all for church ane everyone loves it. They rock at lower volumes also and the loops work very well.

We put effects and volume pedal in the loops. volume pedal is crucial for church because of differing volume opinions. The volume pedals allow us to play lower during rehearsal and then swell the volume up as needed with the emotion and intensity of the song during performance/worship. Nobody ever complains and its powerful. We also do hillsong, tomlin, crowder, originals etc.

The youth sound pro because of the authority of the egnaters

I chose the Mod 50 because i believe it to be more in the rock/blues category where IMO the M4 is great for harder more metal type vibe.

Hey thats great to know man thx ..I purchased it used with the Bman and SL2 modules . But you nailed what I am looking to get down the road , the VX and SL . Those sound the best out of all the clips I have heard for the type of music I would be playing . I really was contemplating the 1X12 cab, because the person I was buying it off was selling that as well , but with the shipping to Canada it was going to be a little pricey . It might be something I do down the road .

Ok I also have a TC electronics G system on the way , I was really ( I mean really ) torn between a G force and G system . Finally in the end went with the G system . So here 's hoping it sounds great !

Now for guitar lessons ....

jk ;)

visiting an earlier post..

Look into the Weber Mass Attenuator instead of the hot plate.. I think it treats your amp better... more options, I think less tone suck/ loss.

also Lincoln Brewster, suprisingly gets most of his tones from the POD X3.... you can download them... I don't like the Pod, but.... he has some of the best tone in that corner of the industry.

Matt

the G system is great. Does everything my frig. Size rack does and clean, transparent.
