Hey all, I had ordered a full compliment of tubes for my herbert that was never installed. I got a hold of a VH4 and tried the EL34 BGs out and really enjoyed them. I had originally ordered the EL34s from Jens (who is no longer offering his tech services to Diezel customers), is there another outlet for these tubes if I were to want some more.

I would also like to try the BG in my vh4. Are you sure he is no longer dealing with Diezels, i emailed his website a few weeks ago regarding the BG to see if he could ship them to australia. And he said it was no problem.

What does ordering Ruby tubes have to do with Diezel? If this guy, Jens, doesn't deal with Diezels... just don't tell him what amp they're for. Am I missing something here?

I am checking with Ruby. I had tried to get some a while back and never could for whatever reason. They are not on my price sheet so...

She's checking
Have faith.

But whats the "BG"
One site said "similar to Wing C's
Anyone else ,thoughts?

I can get them but I don't know that there will be more available once those are gone. There may have been some quality issues with the BG's which is why they never took off. As far as what BG stands for...not sure. My guy didn't know.

Laura, whats the price on the BG Rubys?
I seen them though another place @$21.00

Your EL34BSTR's are $19.50

So,is there a great tone increase for the price difference?

I live a few miles from Magic Parts and have a seller account with them. I might have to saunter down later this week and query about these BG's. I haven't heard of them.

Love the BG's in my Herbert, they sound killer. Ironically they were installed by Jens

Laura, if you get some, I want some!! I will PM you.

Hi folks, I got notified by a customer about this BG thread. I still get quite a few inquiries for those tubes and over the past 2 years (since Ruby started making them) I have installed them in many Diezel amps as well as other amp brands (Marshall, Cameron, Mesa etc). This EL34 type sounds very nice, very much like the winged C version and is much more affordable. However, this tube type has serious quality issues and a tube re-seller needs to not only re-test them in a tube tester, but also install them in an amp and let them run for 2 days while monitoring the bias plus test noise level.
If the BG's are not properly tested they can cause havoc to your Diezel amp. I had a customer with a Herbert running a BG sextet which damaged his Midi circuit. We could repair it, but it was a hassle.

Personally I don't recommend the BG's anymore at this point. I have been testing many tube types over the past 8 months, new production and NOS. Installed them in all kinds of amps, Marshall, Fender, Engl, Diezel, Peavey etc. The best tubes in terms of durability and tone in my opinion are NOS Russian military tubes. I import them from Russia and I get replacements for EL84, 6V6, 6L6, 5881 and EL34 . Fantastic tone to say the least and so far noone has come back to me with a blown tube.

I had a quad of BGs a while back. One blew after 20 minutes. Small sample size, but I went with Wing Cs after that.

Exactly my point. The BG's mostly test well in a tube tester, but then act up once installed in an amp, that is why I started burning them in amps before shipping to folks.

I also noticed that individual BG tubes drifted off in bias current during burn in period which often resulted in 1 tube of the pair being biased cold the other one close to red plating or actually red plating. That's why when biasing power tubes I always measure current (not voltage across a 1 Ohm resistor) per tube, then if they match I measure the pair and adjust the idle current.
